Interesting to see how this heats up the competition with ZBrush. Max 10 (or Max 2008) has also been announced, nothing jaw dropping but it seems we finally have a decent real-time viewport renderer, including shadows etc.
"3ds Max 2008 gives you a more streamlined, artist-friendly modeling workflow through a collection of hands-on modeling UI options that let you focus more on the creative process"
Like the way they streamlined the polygon counter to the most stupid location ever in max9? Honest to god I found it by accident.
Ya looks like max 2008 is going to be very like 9, some upgrades but nothing spectacular. And hopefully with autodesk at the helm we will see better integration with these apps, as at the moment max to zbrush pipeline is very unfriendly with lots of issues.
