Did anyone else catch this last night?

I watched the thing in a kind of a daze, wondering who it was who nominates and votes for the titles displayed.

A brief summary could be basically that Wii Sports was the big winner, having about the same effect as Titanic at the Oscars. It ended up scooping up 6 Baftas, for Casual, Innovation, Multiplayer, Sports, Strategy and Gameplay. Watching Crackdown scoop up two awards, Use of Audio and Best Action Adventure game (beating Twilight Princess, Orange Box and God of War 2) was a little odd.

Satisfyingly enough (in my opinion anyway), Okami also picked up two Baftas, for Best Original Score and Artistic Achievement.

Strangely enough, the only person there who seemed in any way related to video games was Will Wright, who showed up to collect his Academy Fellowship award. The rest of the crowd seemed to be vaguely recognizable pseudo-celebrities who had nothing else to do, like McFly and two of the guys from Athlete.

I suppose that it is a good thing that games are being recognized as a real art form now, but I suppose I would have liked if people from the video games industry had attended the video games awards…

Here is the full list of winning games and the awards they picked up:

Note that some of the nominated games haven’t been released yet.

Other than that its just a really really stupid time of year to be asking industry people to be showing up to anywhere other than their dev office…

I still cant believe Crackdown won anything. I’m not saying its a bad game, but good grief saying its a better action adventure game than God of War 2, Twilight Princess or Orange box is INSANE. Also best use of audio? Eh!? At least none of the presenters said that they don’t like games this year.

I guess we should be thankful for that.

Crackdown did have very good use of audio though.

true, but i think its the best use of audio out side of a music based game.

I agree with a few of the Wii Sports prizes, but Strategy and Simulation? Wonder what part they consider good enough to be a "sim"

Football manager won the only publicly voted award, brilliant! Should get more awards, that game is life-ruining!

Watching McFly try and get through a conversation was alternatively funny and enragng.

"Yeah, we, like, play games all the time, innit? Like, on the bus and that. We play them all the time with, like, multiplayer"

Truely the voices of our generation.

Yeah I hated the way they just interviewed the popstars who presented the awards instead of the winners! Was ok though, at least it was televised I guess
