laptop?

With all computer science related courses its useful to have a laptop or home pc but its not essential. You’ll have plenty of time to use the labs etc to do work during scheduled lab hours and outside in your own time. When I was at U.C.C. labs were opened from like 7-8 in the morning until 9-10 at night, some times longer. So i’d imagine its similar everywhere else. So if you cant get the work done during those hours theres something wrong ;)
Basically, if you can afford one, then its useful, but its not essential. You’ll find alot of people probably wont have one (i didnt have one in college and worked okay for me ;)).

I couldn’t college without my laptop :)
When I first got mine, I found it really difficult to go back to using the college pcs. They didn’t have firefox set up how I like it, they didn’t have the projects I worked on at home and on the train ready to go, or fancy schmancy 3D graphics for playing the odd game of whatever took my fancy. Plus it’s nice to be able to work when the network went down.
Yea verily, a laptop be a mighty tool (except when you are out of range of the wireless, or need access to the college domain. or forget your plug.. or let it get rained on so it has difficulty displaying green). :cry:

I would say it’s pretty essential, especially if you don’t have a P.C. where you stay during college. You don’t need to get one that’s too expensive, I have one I bought in ALDI 3 years ago and it’s served me well. Even survived going on fire (my fault :D) Dell is a good option too I think.

Might want to look at http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/ too. Their service is dire, but the laptops are nice and cheap
