game design specifically?
there are not too many courses teaching game design in Dublin…and with the current minister of education next year might not see too many new hires unfortunately.
You could send your CV to the heads of department of the appropriate departments of media and computer science in the main unis and colleges teaching media production and games. Often people start off teaching one or two modules..

Hi Sean,
Can you be a bit more specific about what you hope to teach? "Game Design" is a large subject domain, so is it theory ("play" "fun" "puzzles" "sociology") or practical (level design, prototyping, mechanics, MDA, etc.).
If it is practical, probably somewhere like Qantm in the UK would be a good place to start, as they offer courses in dedicated game design.
I may be out of the loop, but I don’t think there are too many courses in Ireland who have a significant amount of their curriculum devoted to game design.

Thanks for the quick responses and keeping up the pressure about the issue. I am actually looking for anything that deals with 3d art creation, 2d art creation, game design particularly which I love or gameplay programming/scripting.
I am trained in all of them and a few more areas also. So I am trying to secure employment any way i can because I love games to bits and I need to get a job since I am finishing my degree.
I am at bcfe at present, landing a job there would be pretty sweet but with the recession and everything it seems a bit far fetched.
Any thoughts?

most of the people I know have not landed any teaching jobs out of college just industry ones. That was only small number.
The only reason that I have not got a portfolio up to standard is because I worked with multiple studios, gaining invaluable experience. Skills can be developed overnight but experience cannot.

Yes it would be either because I am very well versed in both sides of game design both theory and practical and i love particuarly when they both mix together.

I’d imagine teaching or practicing game design in Dublin would be quite hard due to the limited number of companies and courses?

if you want to stay in Dublin I would broaden your search to places offering animation and multimedia courses..
a bit more design orientated – IADT, BCFE, DCU/Comms, NUIM, DKIT,
a bit more technically orientated – TCD, DIT, UCD, DCU/Computers or Engineering…there are more I am sure…these just spring to mind.
there are other training operators too who run short courses like Screen training ireland (FAS) etc..http://www.screentrainingireland.ie/

Yeah getting the job is hard, I am actually trying for work in all avenues of game development just so that I am not stuck with no employment in my desired industry when I leave college.
I am sure ye know what I mean
Cheers :D
