hello there.
I’m looking for some information about game development course’s in ireland, now i have already looked at the ones that are in the course’s section of this site but they all require something i do not have,the leaving cert, is there any course that does not require the leaving cert or am i pretty much screwed?
i am also self taught in Quake-C if that helps =)

Most colleges will accept people who can prove a geniune interest or ability in a certain field if you do enough begging.
Also, if there are exceptional circumstances as to why you don’t have a leaving certificate. For example, if you had a serious illness when you were supposed to do the leaving certificate they might accept you too. A friend of mine got into a degree course despite not having her leaving cert due to illness.

my understanding is that while you may not need to reach the minimum requirements for certain courses as a mature student you will/should have sat your leaving certificate for most of the ITs and universities and if not explicitly stated, you stand a better chance of gaining entry if you have.
Check directly with the ITs/univ you are interested in as they may have different age limits for entry for mature students and different requirements re leaving certificate…also some courses require you to sit an entrance/aptitude exam. Work/life experience is also taken into account.
remember universities only reserve a certain number of places for mature students..so it is competitive also.
private colleges of course will be different..
