Would be interested in hearing GD.ie members recommendations on the best and cost effective for suppliers of full body motion capture

I’m still hoping someone cracks setting up the kinect motion capture eventually. Considering it does 3d scanning already (though not precise) I think its feasible.

I have No real commercial recommendations here.. sorry to hijack

Not sure if its what you’re looking for but I used a Mo-Cap suit for my final year project in college on the maynooth campus?

If you’re looking for a once off sort of thing, they were telling me they wanted more people to generate files for them. So their stipulation was they got a copy of all my files (martial art techniques) and I could use their suit no problems.

Yes I agree Kinect may replace some of the commercial motion capture solutions.

They had the suit. And it was able to handle the awkward stretches done by the black belt instructor that I had with me so it should be able to handle most other things?

As Aphra works in the University in question, she may actually know more about it than me. I was only given access through my lecturer knowing Charles Markham, one of the lecturers in Maynooth

Hey there! I’ve done quite a bit of work into body motion capture. Your best method would be the passive marker system (google it) as it allows flexible movement for your actors.. As for facial capture you can do work with normal cameras as opposed to dodgy markers but it is possible. I wouldnt recommend kinect yet as it is obviously a new product however I know that Microsoft are looking into expanding this!!

It may be advisable to book a motion capture session somewhere instead of buying a super expensive set of equipment..

      That’s my recommendation anyways!
