Should we increase reliefs for developers here?

Yeah, tax relief is an obvious solution to help kick-start the industry in this country. I’d like to see relief packages designed for companies of all sizes. We need a few AAA developers here as well as trying to help grow the indie side of things too.
Also, I’d like to see more grants available for hiring staff, (especially those who are unemployed)

It took two years for the French government to get their production tax credit measure approved by the Commission and they had to introduce a culture test with specific qualification criteria. All the major publishing trade associations opposed it.
I wonder what the Irish ‘culture test’ selection criteria would look like…

Also,
Without any lobbying group available to the games industry we’ll have to rely on the initiative of politicians.

oh I think there is plenty of lobbying going on…we don’t need an actual official organisation for that.

Well, despite the lobbying and all the talk about how growing the Irish games industry is going to help drag Ireland out of the economic doldrums (by politicians), Enterprise Ireland have just changed their general policy in a way that will not be helping many start ups here. Unless you already have investment money that is.
Seemingly they will now only match what you already have to invest. And they’ll be looking for the usual 10% of your stock too. I can hardly blame them for tightening the purse strings, but it’s sure not going to help.

There was a question asked in the Dail on Wednesday about extending the section 481 tax breaks to game development. It was encouraging to hear, especially when the minister answering (don’t know his name) agreed it was important and under consideration.
