hi everyone
issue 233 of Edge has a 26 page spread on the Irish games industry, mainly focusing on Dublin, but with some other companies too.
I haven’t seen it yet myself, but it’s on sale since yesterday.
Enjoy

Good long interview in there with the relevant parties – topics cover benefits of the recession and growth in services, access to Europe, connections to the US. Then a series of company profiles.
One thing that might concern you Jamie is it looks like Nicolas Pajot is wearing a Steve Collins mask for the picture insert (in the Digital copy at least).

It’s the same in the printed magazine.

it would have been nice if they had interviewed some smaller indie companies as well…
does anyone know how they choose who to contact???

‘The Irish city with a burgeoning development scene.’
I think only three of the companies featured are actual developers. Hardly a ‘burgeoning development scene’.
Still. It’s nice to see a spotlight shone over here for a change. It is good coverage alright. Glad to see the 3rd level bodies and IDA get an oar in there aswell. EDGE is quite the industry rag, so articles like this might help highlight the potential advantages of relocating your company here. Did anyone mention the low corporation tax (repeatedly)?
I don’t think EDGE or any Future Publishing magazines would be all that interested in interviewing indie developers, unless they’ve had a hit release.
Every issue would be the size of a telephone directory otherwise. ;) -

Roganski, have indie devs actually ever bothered to pick up the phone to Edge and see if they’re interested in the story?
Now is probably the best time to do so, they might not be interested in interviewing one, but if a couple of teams got together with something to show, you never know.
Aphra, it was IDA and the companies involved that made it happen, particularly Popcap and Jolt from what I can see.
