well some of this is pretty sensitive business information so I am not surprised that there is not a lot of transparency about it.
there have been some good articles on gamasutra
See http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/132599/iphone_development_everything_you_.php?print=1
others might have some better links

Karlin Lillington tweeted this today
‘Why being an App Developer is Harder than you think’
http://mashable.com/2012/05/02/successful-app-infographic/
Mind you the people who commissioned the survey are in the app promotion business…so read between the lines too..

But really is it so sensitive that app developers are afraid of competition that they make out its extremely difficult to break into the market so as to throw others off and not persue a career in app development?
Does that make sense?

Ok it is clear there are a few in here that create games and publish on the app store, we all know this, but what I would Like is for them to give an example of there published games,
what game?
Do they market it and if so how and how much is spent in advertising it?
Does it return a profit and how much did it return?
And finally how much did it cost to develop the app?I would like to hear your story, a success story or failure story.
Thanks in advance

Very interesting read, this is exactly the type of example I was looking for, do Irish developers have any similar examples?
