Folks
Im pleased to announce that we got funded to run a one year Level 7
Ordinary Degree in Game Development from next September.Details can be found here on the HEA springboard website
http://www.springboardcourses.ie/Bachelor-Degree-%28Ordinary%29-in-Computer-Game-Development/Science-Mathematics-and-Computing/Computing/Computer-Science/ViewItem.aspx?ItemTypeID=2&ItemID=1363This course is aimed that people with Level 6 Qualifications from a variety of backgrounds but will ideally be suitable for those who have finished courses in
– Design
– Animation
– Game Design
– Media
– Architecture / Engineering
– IT / ComputingThe course has a strong focus on programming and how it is used in game development and aims to cover languages like c# & Lua and development platforms such as Unity & Corona.
The philosophy of the programme is to encourage independent/casual game development for cross platform mobile / smart / web platforms through project and interdisciplinary team work. Creating First Person Shooters and 3D modelling is not what this course is about.
The skills are cross transferable to other software development environments and will give those people with level 6 backgrounds or related experience a pathway to Level 8 programmes and beyond.
You can message me here for more details and you can apply online through springboard.

some questions coming in about this.
In relation to the time.
Its part time and is 8 hours a week, in the evening.
This is to facilitate those who find work in the meantime. There may be some short ‘boot-camps’ of 1 – 2 week duration at the start
to give people a kick-start.Response has been phenomenal and we have filled half the course already since Monday.

Take up on the degree programme has been phenomenal and we have 4 places left (assuming all those who get offers accept them). So if you are considering doing this i would suggest you apply straight away, there isn’t any harm doing it even if you are not sure. you don’t have to accept the offer.
If you have friends interested please tell them to apply very soon

DIT admin staff can be pretty slow to get in touch with people. I did the masters in games there and received no information about the course prior to the start date. Hugh Mc Atamney(Hatch on here) sent an email out the week before it started to fill us in. If it wasn’t for that we’d have had no idea what the story was with it.
Good luck!
