Hello everyone. As the title suggests, I’m looking to get into the IT sector and/or the games industry. I’ve taken a look at the extensive list of courses that you guys have compiled on this site, but it’s a little overwhelming!
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on which one to go for (I’m based near Dublin) and what the pros and cons of some of the courses are in comparison to each other. All of the courses are obviously going to be promoting themselves and blowing their own trupmets so I was hoping for a more honest assesment of what they’re like.
Getting in to Games and getting in to IT are to very different propositions. As we are here I will stick to games.
What would you like to do in games?
Code, Art, Design, Game Design, Production, Sound, Animation, Business, Marketing, Community Management, Tools, Support.
If you do not know the answer to this question go to a game jam.
If you do, let us know and I bet we will be able to give you some good advice.
Part of my dilema is that I don’t know what I want to do/would be good at. I’m more techincally minded than creative so I suspect Code or Production would be for me, but my current field of studies means that I have a good grounding in 3D modelling. I enjoying drawing to a degree as well but I haven’t drawn anything seriously since secondary school.
Also, googling ‘game jam’ leads me to belive that you need to have some expertise in a field already, am I wrong on this?
