I really wanted to start an indie project with a friend and hopefully make this somewhat of a full time thing. I was reading an interview with a company called Nexrage and decided to look up some stats and the piracy rate for indie games is higher than 90% it’s ridiculous…
I always thought gamers supported the indie gaming industry but…But 90-95% piracy rate? Seriously? How does piracy get THAT high? Does this happen for movies/music too? That literally 90% of potential sales are going to people who don’t pay?

Depends on the company.
I would expect if you wanted to make a decent return on it, something like Aphra siad. However, I know some companies take far longer, but I struggle to see how that is financially viable. -

In their defense they do so indie game development is "iffy" as a full time job…
It’s definitely possible but I could see any company’s first game taking much longer…Once you iron out the kinks you know what to do for the next game.

Mobile game should not take longer than 6 months. Now, just to be clear, that is a mobile game that is being used to see a return in revenue.
If you are making an Indie title just for learning experience then you shouldn’t have to worry as much.
I’d also note that 90 – 95% piracy sounds the same as 3 – 5% conversion rate for F2P games. Makes you realise just why most games businesses are looking at F2P (among its other benefits).

This is an interesting view on piracy if you haven’t read it.
