DUUG #22: BRAIN of the DUUG
January 30, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm
HERE WE SEE THE DUUG in its natural habitat, slowly awakening from hibernation. Basking in the (admittedly weak) rays of the sun, it scratches itself (procedurally), then begins to boot its artificial imagination. What fresh technology and dev techniques will 2019 bring?
This DUUG is happening on Weds the 30th of January from 6.15-21.30pm!
We are pleased to announce that this event will be hosted by the good people at Dogpatch Labs and that we’ll have their Vaults Event Room to ourselves on the night! Bring your colleagues, bring your friends – tonight, there’s something for everyone!
Map here (https://goo.gl/maps/mvQZNj2buNE2).
Website here (http://dogpatchlabs.com/) (pierce the veil with cybervision and… THE INTERNET!).
For PRESENTATION A, please put your hands together for hobbyist of 8 years and maker of a neat lizard animations, Oisin Carroll – before he shows you how to do that in code! Delving into procedural animation, and showing you how to realistically pose characters in real time in dynamic and changing environments, he hopes to give everyone a toolbox of tricks to add life to characters in their games!
Artomatix will be giving PRESENTATION B – an Irish company, founded by an American graduate of Trinity College Dublin Dr. Eric Risser. Initially a startup here in Dublin, it has grown to be a collection of researchers, artists and developers specialising in easing the growing burden on digital artists within the 3D industry, using their creative AI.
Fionn Hand, their product specialist will be discussing how Artificial Intelligence impacts the industry, the challenges faced while developing new and disruptive technologies, before specifically focusing on the growth of photogrammetry processing within the games industry, and finally how AI is making it more achievable for smaller teams.
GAME DEVELOPMENT FOR BEGINNERS – Just a reminder folks, we’re running a comprehensive intro to Game Dev for Beginners using Unity this weekend (on the 12th!). If you or anybody you know would be interested in getting a guided introduction (with one qualified trainer and two professional Unity devs) to the engine, head over to https://www.meetup.com/Skill-Boost-Dublin/events/257186301/ and get in touch with paulocarroll01 {at} gmail {dot} com
If you’re bringing a project to playtest/show at DUUG, we encourage you to consider adding a scoreboard to the project! There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to get people queuing up to take another crack at your game…! (And if you’d like some basic scoreboard code to get started, feel free to ask the DUUG organisers on the day!)
RSVP, ASAP! We’ll see you there!
— Rev & Ale & Kev & Andrew & James!
