One of my co-workers just passed by a few minutes ago and asked me what GD.ie was, i told her and she said “oh, I hate video games their so dumb, only for boys”.

This conversation has sprung to mind the obvious fact, more guys play games than Girls, but why?. Does anyone know of any research that has been done to clarify just exactly why Games appeal more to a male demographic?

It’s an interesting fact, I think. although it is changing.:)

There’s an interesting read on The Battle of the Sexes. Kind of about what drives both sexes to play games.
The fact that the development side is mainly male that the games are designed for the male frame of mind. One of the main reasons we need more women in the industry.

Thanks for the links guys. That Amazon read was interesting, also the fact that the majority of casual online gamers are female says something significant to me, namely that Female Gamers like to socialize when playing games.

This also supports the fact that games like Samba di Amigo/Point Blank/Eye-Toy and Dance Dance revolution are played more by Female gamers, due to their social nature.

Anyway guys I think this is interesting and thanks again for the links.
