I am interested in finding out what people think about gd.ie carrying advertising. We have been approached by a couple of places recently and asked if we do…
at the moment we don’t. But we do need to open some new revenue streams and the more observant of you will have noticed that we do not have sponsor logos on our new design layout. We are currently running very cheaply and with few resources but that means updates are less regular and new content is not being added and developed..
What do you think of gd.ie carrying advertising?
What types of advertising would be acceptable?
Should we just accept donations/sponsorship?
Other ideas?let me know what you think?
Aphra.

I think we all use to advertising on the web, if it helps make gd.ie better then I’m up for it.
/as long as money doesn’t “rest in peoples account” before moving on :D

Our first plan is to start charging people with flashing animated gifs in their sigs which advertise other sites :)

…as does taking advertising on the site if it helps with the upkeep (especially if it gets the remaining jobs outstanding from the move done, eh Dave?!
Would be ideal if it could be kept discrete and unobtrusive – oxymorons in relation to advertising, I know, but still – we live in hope

I’m building up momentum. Maybe a savage pestering at a shindig will do the trick :) -

Don’t see any real problem with it as long as its not too intrusive. As Ronny said most activity is based around the Forums so it won’t effect is too much anyway…
Plus I ALWAYS love winning more Green Cards….I must be like, the luckiest person in the world EVER… :D

Nah. I’ve been the 10,000,000th visitor to more sites than you could possibly imagine! I’m almost beginning to think its all a scam (but if that Nigerian deal works out, I’ll be a millionaire soon enough!) -

Advertising is fine as long as its not in your face.
No pop-ups and no flashing stuff. Other than that they can advertise anything they want. If its not completely in my face, I’m not going to notice it anyway :) -

Lifestyle stuff like ‘Beer’ would find a receptive audience here :)

what’s the deal with all these new game advertisments that are on there own layer above the actual site, bloody annoying if you can’t close them and they’re covering something you’re trying to read.
