Ok i think you guys need to set up one of thouse things where you have to enter a random code to join the forums because the bots are taking over.

Yeah, and they’re getting smarter too, like that Idora one, starting a "sex in games" one on a gamedeveloper forum…
I believe there’s already one of those Captcha filters installed, but some bots still seem to get through :-/

yes…they are getting smarter although starting threads about sex games probably doesn’t help!
I know we have a filter…Dave do you need any help with this and can anyone help in this area?

I suggest more Moderators. All senior members should get an email when a new member submits their first 3 posts & first three threads that he/she starts. And give power for any senior member to approve them.
(That way all the work wont be on one persons sholders and hopefully delays in approving posts will be minimal).
Once three posts are cleared then the reins for commenting in existing threads come off and same system with starting threads.Just had a battle with the spammers myself who were using a feed back form I have on my website to submit a multitude of links. Was anoying cos I had it hooked up so I was getting txts for every piece of spam that the bots submitted. I have the battle won for now.

Another forum that I frequent has a system that posts by newbies have to be pre-approved by the moderators before they show up to regular users, that system could work pretty well here.

I know at 1UP.com you have to make 30 replys before you can start a topic 30 is a bit high for a smaller foum like this one though

The random code verifications don’t always work either, they have gotten smarter and learnt to analyse those things themselves. The best way I’ve found to counter them is to add a question such as "what is the name of this site?", "what colour is grass?" or "what colour is the sky?". It can also work as an idiot filter if someone can’t get the right answer :D

Gizmo and Omen should both now be able to moderate the forums. Let me know if there are any issues.
