I’ve heard rumours of a big developer opening an office in Ireland. Not a dev office to begin with, but who knows in the future.

Lets hope it’s true, then.

Very cool. The domino effect is here. This company is surely encouraged by others starting up here and in turn other companies will follow suit when they start up.
Wouldn’t be Codemasters by any chance?
Just a feeling…

Job’s good, really liking Core so far.
As for who….well, I’ll tell you later…heard about it in a roundabout but reliable manner.

Climax?? Man, aren’t they in trouble after the Warhammer Online thing….I hear the Nottingham office is basically unofficially closed cos of it. But you missed lots of companies! Rockstar, EA, Blizzard, Microsoft, Konami to name but a few.

Nah, no hints, except that its not Core :p -

Heres my thinking:
Rockstar – Then usually tend to take over devco’s rather than set up new ones….
EA – Hmm – when they tend to build a studio they REALLY build a studio… also they are internalising hugely….they have Uber Montreal and they have the Uber Chertsey (sp?) branch. This added to ‘EA partners’ stuff- do they need more?
Blizzard – I used to work for Blizzards owners (vivendi) – They dont have the money or the desire to open a branch in Ireland. Doesn’t suit blizzards style also.
Microsoft – They are more a publisher, it would be easier for them since they are already based here
Konami – Would be weird…but cool!

Vivendi also have a branch here… localisation same as Microsoft.
they even had two of Valve’s developers over here in March for 6 weeks while working on HL2… we tried to get ’em for an IGDA event but they were too busy, alas – and let’s face it, the world would never forgive us for delaying it going gold!!

Yeah I worked @ Vivendi Ireland for 2 years.
The comments still hold true – they are not in ‘expansion mode’, will they ever be?
/On a vivendi note – has anyone seen the big movies of Monoliths F.E.A.R? Its a FPS for 2005 and it looks brillant – tonnes of blood, scares and fancy fancy graphics.

That “Rockstar Dublin” has a nice ring to it, hmmm. ya maybe they could focus on making the next iteration of GTA better when enveloped in Dublin’s vast array of “hard men” clubs(does that make any sense Omegas?)(no, so shut up)…….
-
12/07/2004 at 1:34 pm #13298AnonymousInactive
Yeah I like the sound of “Rockstar Dublin”, “Pornstar Muff” might be more appropriate. Think of it now, Grand Theft Auto: Malin Head…

Its not NCsoft…
The publisher of City of Heroes and publisher/developer of Lineage II will be opening a wholly-owned subsidiary in London, UK with a 3.2 million pounds ( million) investment. [/quote:20a15a919d]
