How come this year the first weeks are in ireland this time round? Will the expertise on hand in scotland be flying back and forth or presumably we got our own experts lending the hand.
Any of ye’s on here helping out in terms of mentoring etc? -

I suspect it is financial!
Local expertise will certainly be on hand but not sure how they propose to tap into the Scottish expertise.
Someone else probably knows better than I.

The Dare project office told us that there’s gonna be 6 different locations this year. Can’t remember where they said there’s going to be 4 different locations where there’s going to be heats going on. Heard them saying something like 6 teams are going to come from each location to meet up at Protoplay in Edinburgh for the showcase week. The locations that I remember are Dundee,North and South England and Ireland. We were told that its no guarantee that each team is going to get a member from the Internation applicants. Its after getting much bigger this year! More info here :

Just a bit of advice from ye wise ones….myself and 2 other lads in Abertay are planning a team for Dare and the team size is limited to 5. We’re undecided whether we need two artists/animators or if we can get away with one. We’re planning on having a mixed outdoor/indoor game and the map size would be big enough. We’ve got a fella who really wants to be on the team as a programmer and he’s really good, knows his stuff so we’re kinda to-ing and fro-ing between having two artists or not.
Given that we’re likely to be using a proven engine, is 4 programmers a bit much?

From experience, I would say 2 programmers and 2 artists and one person that can do both really, probably tending towards the 3rd artist option. We did the 1 artist thing, we won, but our artist won a specially made award for outstanding individual achievement. Remember your artist(s) will need to 3d models, environments, 2d art for the gui, concept art for the documents, 2d art for the promotional posters, the list goes on and on.

Yeah I understand that alright. We’ve talked it over and think we’re just going to go for the 2 artist option. Two of the other lads can do a bit in max and texture and that too so they will be able to help out a bit.

Any word on any potential Irish teams yet?
Although I’m not taking part this year I finally got my lecturers to inform the years of its existence so hopefully take up here will be slightly better.

I guess the networking event on the 8th of Feb. might be where we really find out about things and teams can source missing programmers or artists.
