Can’t see a thread up so thought I’d get the ball rolling.
Any interest in a late Dec early Jan shindig?

we usually don’t organise one in Dec. until we know when people are flying home and if there is interest. …so thanks for getting this going.

I think it would be great to have a meet up where we actively try to get as many people working in the industry abroad to come along. Having the event one of the nights between 26th and 30th December would probably be best.
There are lots of small indie studios in Ireland but we don’t have a huge population of experienced developers so would be good to give people a chance to meet up. The expats can see what’s happening in Ireland and possibly get involved in some way. Even if people aren’t thinking of moving back to Ireland right away, perhaps when they come to their next job move if they know some of the companies in Ireland they might consider coming back and joining them.
What do people think – would this be a good focus for the shindig or would people prefer it as a separate event? Do the Christmas events tend to attract many people working abroad anyway?

I’m a freelance designer (!) and I love where I’m living but in the back of my mind I want to work or do something with an start-up Irish company.
I admire what the likes of bitsmith and batcat and others are doing.
So tipsy\drunk networking would be good for me :)

so would something on Thurs the 27th or Friday the 28th be interesting to people? Maybe we could get that room in Temple Bar for a short meeting before we do the bar social thing.
If either of those dates work with our travellers just let us know and we can arrange something

Cool! If we settle on a day we can start spreading the word. 27th or 28th sounds good to me.

Both dates suit me with a slight bias to the 27th :)

Hopefully I should be able to make it to this one!

Should we say the 27th so that we can spread the word ?
Where?

Good idea! I asked Mark about the room in Temple Bar and he won’t be around so we can’t use that but we could book an area in one of the bigger pubs – somewhere central like the Lost Society or Mercantile? I’m sure booking an area would be fine on the 27th.

will check in again here on the 26th and see where we are at. I see the IFI has reopened by the 27th too…so that is another possiblity, the upstairs is pretty quiet.
Happy christmas all..

I’ve booked a space in the Lost Society at 8pm on Thursday the 27th so let’s spread the word, especially to people working in the industry abroad who are home for Christmas!

Elaine
is it reserved under a particular name or how do we find the reserved area? People may not know faces..

oh yeah. I guess I was going to look for ‘my people’ but that leaves me vulnerable to approaching complete strangers with the line ‘um…are you er….the games people…’
I’m confident I can spot you but Aphra is right, I’d rather have a better clue. Shall we wear red carnations?
-

It’s booked under my name and also under "Game developers" and it’s in the main bar area so hopefully everyone will be able to find it without any carnations needed!

it was a small select group but good to meet a few new faces and see all the experience they have. Thanks Elaine for organising
