Hi all,
I may be jumping the gun here – but I figured might as well get the ball rolling.
So. Potential dates? Venues? Times?

I’m back from the 18th and would like to catch up with what is going on, that may be a bit late for everyone else though.
As for venue how about the Forum on Dame Street? Nice relaxed pub where you can usually hold a conversation without having to compete with the music.

18th isn’t a bad date (although it coincides with work event). Any evening up to the 23rd works for me too. Nealons upstairs worked very well too, so we should probably go there again.

I dont think I’ll make it for the 18th, I have -3 holidays left for the year.

18th suits me and Nealons is probably quiet enough for people to bring along work to show off.

Ah boo … I’m not back until the 19th! Just going to have to have my own little catch up with a whiskey, fireplace and a dark room!
-

I can make the 18th but I reckon it’s a bit too early for people coming back for Christmas.
I think something around Wednesday the 23rd would be better if we would to include our brothers and sisters in the UK
-

am happy to go later too….but not too late or else the culchies (like me) will be heading out of town..

I’m good for the 18th…
EDIT: can do later in the week, if it means more people being able to attend – I’m all about the inclusiveness.

I was going to mention this, but its down to whatever date suits the most people. On the plus side, if its like last year, Dublin city centre will be deserted around this time :?

Hey Guys,
My names Paddy. I’m part of a new Limerick based Indie game Dev. I was tipped onto this page and would absolutely love to come up and meet with everyone for this. What would be the best hotel to stay at in relation to the venue? Looking forward to this in a big way and meeting all you crazy guys n’ gals! :)

Hi Paddy…
Nealons is at the Liffey end of Capel street so there is a Jurys Inn both on Parnell Street and up opposite Christchurch which are nearish
or if you want to push out the boat…the Morrison on the Liffey, Ormond Quay.

by the way…just cause we are meeting on the 18th does not mean we don’t want to meet up with others who are flying back in sometime the following week…so there can be another informal meet and pint!
Just post here and we will see who is around..
Aphra.

just some update info for tonight.
Firstly, I just talked to Nealons and they will be busy tonight with one group in at 6pm and one at 7pm upstairs. So we won’t be alone this time and it will be important to arrive early if we want seats. This is pretty much to be expected this time of year but look around for us as we won’t be alone.
Secondly, Gareth Lee has said he will be along and will bring tickets for the animation event in early Jan in Ballyfermot for those who want to purchase tickets or even find out more about the event.
see you all later
Aphra.

Ah, I was just there and the place was packed, couldn’t even find a place to stand let alone try to talk to anyone… Sorry if I missed you.
Maybe next time a quiet hotel lobby or something might be better?

Good to put faces to names. Great venue, (recommend it for again) and plenty of chat – What truly is a genre-defining game? and educational too – who knew Sensible Soccer was a C64 game (or was it Amiga?).

Plus be careful who you work for in New Jersey.
Hopefully next time the location would be quiet enough to show off work people have been doing on their laptops? It’s a pity people didn’t get a chance to see Terry’s fantastic and clever new game VVVVVV and get a chance to talk to him. I agree that a hotel lobby might be better for this cause.

Another thing occurs to me is to mention how impressed I am at the amount of work and events that Phil Bourke has done and is doing for games in Ireland at the college level. The Tipp Institute is hosting Irelands Global Game Jam in January – open to anyone, although it’s full up right now. And then not many weeks after in March, the two day Games Fleadh is taking place with many events on such as the Ireland XNA Challenges and talks from Industry speakers.

its probably too late, I’ve been flamed and should just learn to deal with it…grumble grumble grumble…
