I have a project in college at the moment that is about technology in the future, namely in the next 10 years, Im gearing it towards 3D or gaming. So how do you see 3D in 10 years or beyond? What developments do you see coming or directions it will take or what it will be used for?
Same for gaming, how do u think gaming will develop in the next 10 years? etc.
Any good links or pointers or just opinions would be helpful, thanks.

Well the very first Hologram 10 TV’s or 3D TV’s are all ready working in very basic forms so I would expect to see that hit the mass market. Virtual realty head sets will most likely be the standard within the next gen or so of consoles.

Thanks for the reply Mathew, ya holographic or virtual reality are two directions it could go, tho I think virtual reality has been tried a few times previously and failed tho it wasnt anything fantastic back then. Anybody know of any other possible futures? of 3D or games? Or perhaps the futures of the tools used to create 3D?

The answer will be whatever is the most convenient. I reckon we’ll see more use of voice recognition, and of course more internet use.
A high production value version of second life as a gateway to online content perhaps, with simple games available immediately but bigger games requiring sepcific loads

So your saying that you will have to go through something like second life to access the internet? Or just saying they are going to remake the game?

The VR thing seems to have been a bit of a failure but also remember reading about "Augmented reality" where there is a mix of reality with an overlay of graphics / info (kind of like fighter pilots have now) Would give a whole new edge to paint ball :) Also could have a benefit outside games in areas like surgery (i.e. surgeon would have glasses displaying real-time information about the patients vitals, etc
This may be a little off the point but that VR post reminded me of this :) -

Games still achieve a far from real experience …. Co-ops feel detached … game play with others makes it an immersing experience … technology that assists in immersion, including Robotics is worth exploring. hope thats a help

Google Map Wars
An global online game sort of like Battlefield created using super hi-res LIDAR \ DEM data\Google Maps.
Play an incredibly detailed version of your town and virtually kill your neighbour…

Seems microsoft is making some kind of 3d world that would make the net into a second life of sorts.
