Don’t get me wrong, it’s great they are looking for people but … somehow I don’t see many Accounts Managers posting and browsing these forums

I got invited for an online interview! Cool

Your prospective employer may not be too happy that you’re talking so publicly about the process.
Fair enough to ask for the general advice but I’d be careful about how much you say.
I hope it works out for you :)

Hello a friend of mine told me the online interview was pretty tough. have you heard back from them yet? I wonder how long it will take :?

Interview went well, still no NDA, wait and see.

@sidefx nifty gave you some good advice, NDA or not, its not appropriate or professional to post interview particulars.
The very best of luck completing the process, but take the good advice you have been offered – or not – its a free world.

Yeah fair enough just excited and nobody to discuss it with that isn’t already begrudging me about not being contacted themselves. Fingers crossed will know this week

Yeah it looks like there will be another recruitment drive closer to launch for tier 1 and tier 2 support. I’ve been asked to come in for an sit down interview next week so fingers crossed. I won’t be posting up here again if I do get it as I’m sure an NDA will be in effect from then. So if you don’t hear from me then I’ll see ya’ll on the dark side ;)

The darkside should be a pub in Galway.
Maybe the next shindig should be in Galway?

If I might – I like the idea of a shindig in June in Galway – …anyone local there like to suggest a place etc….?? maybe this is a new thead for events…
Aphra.

Hey Aphra
I’m not from Galway but McSwiggans is a nice place to get something to eat and a pint. They may even allow us reserve some space. http://www.mcswiggans.com/

Mcswiggans is fantastic, the food is delicious and it’s a great atmosphere in there to, was there for my birthday recently! :)
Plenty of great pubs to go to then afterwards and late bars etc.

Well I didn’t get it. Absolutely devastated. I honestly thought having made it that far that I had it sorted. I don’t really know what to say now. I’m stuck in my factory forever it seems. Gutted. Nice offices, not a very nice interviewer and while my "on paper" abilities carried me to the finish line I suppose my personality was insufficient to their desires. I’m not sure what move to make next, ive waited a year to get that far and I’ve been shown what my investment was worth to them. Needless to say I won’t be reapplying for tier 1 positions, I’m not sure I would even be considered. Perhaps I can look to the future with Zenimax or return to my career of old and go back to the army. Either way it’s not the way I wanted things to go for me.

sidefx , thats awful, especially after gettign through to the final stage. There will be something else for you. At least Zenimax will be hiring too. Good luck in the future and thanks for keeping us informed.

Thank lala, you it’s funny that they featured me on their website before haha. In fact one of my paintings was the news and updates thumbnail picture on the front of the website. I was good enough to be spotlit for all the community to see, and have extensive conversations on the forums about m work and star wars etc, but seemingly lacked the CSR finesse required to handle customer complaints. I lose a modicum of my respect for a company when they don’t have an actual gamer in the room with you to share your enthusiasm. Instead your bombarded with questions like "what type of people don’t you like?" "how do you deal with people you dont like?". I really didnt know what to say to some of the points I felt they were trying to make. Surely it would have been more appropriate to have actual customer complaint questions, practical work like, I dont know, a typing test???? ALL of the staff I worked with at Blizzard were gamers, the team leaders and supervisors etc, the all played the product and understood it but my interviewers didn’t strike me as gamers at all and didn’t seem too switched on when I said RTS,FPS and MMO in response to "what games do you play?". I posed a question the lady intervewer when she asked me, "why do I want to work for Bioware", perhaps a bit cheeky, I said I’m sure for the same reasons you wanted to work for Bioware, a love of their games and a trust in their established brand and products. She looked at me like I was had 3 heads. Ah well, easy come easy go, I guess there would have been no room for expression or progression for me there anyway, it’s just another support job for the same money I make now. All the best to any and all who apply for work with these guys, hopefully they put some long term actual Bioware employees in front of you next time to share in your enthusiasm and not procrastinate on "how you would handle a repetitive task" :)

Shame to hear that, Sidefx. I don’t want to sound like the bad guy here but at least you can learn from the experience and apply it to your next interview. You applied for a Customer Service position yet you were not prepared to answer questions about how you would deal with difficult customers as they present themselves.
Interviews for these CSR positions are generally carried out by Human Resource people, which in most cases, are not gamers or familiar with gamer terms. They have no interest in what type of games you like and you really have to approach these positions from a non-gamers perspective. Also, be prepared to answer some awkward questions that you had not foreseen. Demonstrating skills by showing them you are a good listener, can communicate effectively, possess the ability to empathise with people along with being able to adapt and respond to a multitude of different personalities would go a long way towards landing a CSR job. Let them know that you are a passionate gamer, but that’s all the info they need on the matter.
Doing your homework beforehand and learning from your mistakes can only bode well in the future and no doubt will bring you one step closer to the job. Just think of it like a driving test ;)
Whatever you do, don’t give up! You got really close, so there’s nothing stopping you from getting to that point again. Keep at it and keep us updated.
Good luck!

Thanks for that Paul, that’s level headed advice and I take it all on-board. It’s a shame but it’s a learning curve for the future. I have the skills I need on paper and I can certainly display them. I guess I should have been more tactical or reserved in my answers as I can see it’s a circuitous scoring method from a HR POV and not a question of dedication or enthusiasm, or in some ways even ability.
Thanks again, here’s to looking to the future.
