Hi,
It has actually been a rather long time since I posted here. Hope everyone is doing well. (And enjoying the sun.)
Anyways I was trying to find any gd.ie related pages on Facebook and came across nothing. Is this website to work within a bubble? Just thought even a page with integration to the features posted would do the job.
I find that if I don’t visit the site regularly I tend to forget about it and not visit for a few months. Not sure if it is just me or does if this happens to others that aren’t "core" gd.ie users.

I have spoken to lots of people who are interested in games who don’t even know the site is here. I don’t get how that is but perhaps the site is hard to google for if you don’t use the word ‘developers’.
Anyway re people who have found the site, should there be a weekly email with the list of commented topics like you get from linked in or gamasutra site? That way forgetting about the site would be hard.
Not sure what’s the deal with rss here but I’m sure it’s been looked at before. I think the Irish game developers linkedin group is very quiet, any way to duplicate posts on there? I’m not sure about facebook krudd, I’m not a fb user but I think linkedin is more useful tool for even the non core group but if there are potential members to be found maybe it shouldn’t be overlooked.

A Twitter account would be handy too as the replacement for the under-used mailing list

well the lack of mailling list usage is my fault … we hatched a plan back in January to design a mailing out that we could send out once a month and it has sat as a plan so far…
Jamie has some ideas around facebook..I am not a user so I am probably not the best one to comment on its usefulness.
Linked in groups are quiet alright…
RSS..not sure…Dave might be able to say.
By the way if someone has some time to work on a one page design for a monthly mail out that would pull content from the site then give me a shout…
Aphra.

Hi Aphra,
Yeah, I have a lot of things on that list to go through still,
I’ll put some time aside this weekend to get cracking on it!

Both maybe? Different functions, RSS is better for people to keep up with if their Twitter timelines are overflowing like mine. Twitter, on the other hand, can be more useful as a marketting tool to spread awareness of the site

Twitter yes
linkedin ? But as a group – not cross linked
imagine the questions …. I see you know such & such in Game Studio X can you introduce me? as I want to get a job with them, pitch a game …. etc etcFacebook ? Again same point
Big reason I like current setup is people can lurk without getting to see your pet photos, business or personal contacts.
Sorry for being so old school but I guess I am not alone in wishing for some privacy (silos for different contacts).
Comments flames welcome.

It can be set up as you just "Like" gd.ie and that’s about as much as someone else can see if you have the rest of your privacy statements set to block everyone. It’s just good as when a new feature would be posted a link would also appear on peoples Walls. It wouldn’t be used to replace the forum or to use it as a massive discussion point.
