Super congrats.
How difficult was the submission process?
What did you need to submit exactly?

Not difficult as much as time consuming.
There were certain bureaucratic barriers to climb over and a fair amount of content creation to do.
On top of that we’ve done a big press push.
All and all 6 weeks of preparation.

We’ll be joining you in Oct 2015 :p
US or UK, I like the US one due to ease of payment.
Good luck, we’ll be backing.

[/quote:c42c7a24f8]We tried our hardest to get the US one, but there are just so many hurdles to jump over, it was pretty much not an option for us. To start, you need someone that lives in the US to do all the admin and setup.
Good luck, we’ll be backing.[/quote:c42c7a24f8]
Thanks man!

During my stalking process of European KS campaigns I discovered some US legal/accountancy firms that will do all the heavy lifting for you.
I spent many months researching KS, I’m not an expert but I’m fairly knowledgeable, did you contact any of the other Euro studios who have been through the US Kickstarter process?
Be clear with the message when you launch. Grab people’s attention with the video. Plan your updates and support beforehand. Accompany these with video’s and concepts. If possible have a demo even if its basic. Reach out to other indie devs beforehand, give them a copy of your game to play. Get them excited and interested, they can tell their fans about your game.
Get the word out to press beforehand and keep getting the message out to them. New videos or nice things to show will be easy updates for the likes of RPS/Joystiq. You’ve probably seen all the post mortems out there on this stuff, most people like sharing their experiences :)

I’m excited for you guys, let’s all help get the message out and get this game funded :)

Thanks Ivan!
Yeah there are firms that will do the heavy lifting, but we didn’t want to get involved. We’d also like to keep some of the money at the end of it!
I guess I could say that we’ve been really working on this campaign for the past year, in terms of building press relations and indie contacts, which is obviously critical to KS success. We’re really happy with the day one press we have secured. The video and page have been chiselled down and refined from feedback from some of our friends who are deeply involved in the global indie scene. We are giving away a demo and have a bunch of updates planned for throughout the campaign.
It’s been a big learning experience for us and once it is over and the dust has settled, we will add to the long list of post-mortems and will hopefully pass on our learnings to anyone else planning to give it a shot.

Looks like this is going to go right down to the wire.
The best source of new backers has been in updates of other Kickstarters.
Does anyone know any Kickstarter creators that might do a shout out for us?

I don’t know if you already know it, but the Kickstarter campaign for the game featured in an article by Martina Fargnoli on IndieVault.it, which is the main Italian Indie Game Developers Community website (on which sometimes I end up writing as well) :D
You may already have a bunch of Italian fans out there!

Here is the latest vid from FranknJohn
I think this, more than anything we have done before, communicates the core gameplay.

Can you guys help us share the video?

The video was really good actually, it adds a whole other dimension, each skull cap is a game in itself! not just a hat ;)

This is a real pity but they didn’t meet their target. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bitsmithgames/franknjohn
Well done on the promotion, number of backers and amount raised though.
Hopefully the project will continue.
Can they get any of the money? Or is that on a different platform

I think you have the option to either proceed with the full amount or proceed with whatever is made. You have to make that choice at the start. Though that might be only Indiegogo?!
This campaign made (over?) 50% of the target figure. Would it not be possible to keep working on the game and keep promoting it any way possible and then re-run the campaign? Try to build on that 50%? There is certainly nothing preventing the re-running of the campaign on Indiegogo. Though Indiegogo only does a fraction of Kickstarters business. The 50% represents proof that there is interest in the project out there. That has to be worth something? No?On a side note…..
There is also quite a bit of talk these days about crowd funding offering equity in projects. I know this is being looked into currently. They just need to find a way of managing the whole thing. A revenue split for funders would be very attractive indeed. If it ever comes to pass I think it’s a model that’ll suit indie games funding down to the ground. -

We were working with them for quite some time to be a launch title for the platform but for various legal issues they couldn’t launch, and they have some serious industry muscle behind them.
Anyway, I think a combination of E3, Steam Sale, World Cup, UK Kickstarter, summer hols had something to contribute; we had all the press but none of the conversion.
Could write a book on my experiences gained throughout the campaign, but that’s for another day.

well if you fancy writing up the experience in some way we would be pleased to post/cross-post on gd.ie!
Gambitious looks interesting
