      Hi all,

At the last gamedev meeting we discussed organising a knowledge sharing event for game development studios, GameDev MindMeld is a realisation of that.

At the MindMeld event participants will share learning in tech, game design, business and marketing.

Each month a MindMeld will be hosted by one of the participants. This first event, on Tuesday the 27th of November, will be hosted by bitSmith Games.

In order to participate game studios must be willing, and able, to host a MindMeld as we’ll be taking turns hosting the event and places are limited (by office space).

If you would like to participate please PM me or email me at mark.aherne [at] fantom.ie. Participation is on a first come basis, I’ll announce here when the event is full.

      Thanks,

      Mark

I know that the hosting requirement is a barrier for some studios.

You can host it in any suitable venue (private, not an open pub or public space, and within walking distance of the city centre). It doesn’t have to be your work space.

If you are stuck for space but would like to participate I can offer one studio (maybe two) space to host their MindMeld, PM/email me for details.

      Thanks Aphra,

If you could stick it up on Events that’d be great.

Very little interest in this so far, which is a pity I think.

It might be due to event fatigue! There is so much going on over the next few weeks.

Maybe it is one for the new year?

      Good point.

I’ll give it til Monday and then I’ll reschedule if there’s still no pick up.

I think GNE being involved in some way would be extremely positive, I know that indies could learn a lot from your publishing/marketing experience.

I think though that we are best rescheduling for December, there’s just too much going on this month.

bitSmith were due to host the first event this month, so I’ll see if would like to host it next month instead.

If they do I can host it in January, or perhaps you would like to Jamie?

      Mark,
what kind of participant numbers are you hoping to achieve?
ie. how big does the venue have to be?

This sounds like a great idea but I’m sure the hosting is the hurdle here – as well as event fatigue!
      Cheers,
      Ciaran.

      Hey all,

Just to let people know that interest in the MindMeld picked up and we now have six game development companies attending this first event next Tuesday 27th.

We have four companies with their own premises, the other two can host in our (Fantom’s) space if necessary, so we’ve basically relaxed the hosting requirement.

We can probably squeeze one or two more in if there’s interest.

Event fatigue is definitely an issue here, but this is something very new and all attendees are very excited about the potential of it.

      All the best,

      Mark
