      Anyone else playing this game?

I’m 9 hours in and loving every minute. Game looks stunning and plays far better then the first one.
Kind of a pity they didn’t put it on next-gen consoles because some of it would look insanely good in high def, but is still a great swansong for the ps2.

Even plugged my 360 out to play it! And Okami too. Another great game that might just slip under the radar. shame

re: GOW2… looks even better than the original (which was quite a feat on the PS2 hardware) and the story is great this time round too, but can’t help feeling it’s not as polished as GOW. Minor bugs in places, patchy VO and the level design hinders the camera at times. Having said that, I’m about 14 hours in and playing it whenever I can. Great stuff

We just got both into the lab here and we’ve been playing them back to back.

With regard to story I think GOW does a better job, I can’t really say why without spoiler tags, so I’ll let you all see for yourselves. But I will say that I think that the difference is in flow. GOW2 is more about great pieces of story rather than a great story start to finish.

Some of the visuals take a step up in GOW2, but I hink the reason it seemed so much better for was that the setting in GOW2 is simply more colourful.

As for the gameplay, does anyone else feel the introduction of the powers/weapons is getting a bit towards Zelda or Metroid. Metroid especially considering how the game starts.

I borrowed a PS2 and Okami recently. One of the best games I’ve played in a long time. Good gameplay, battles are nicely varied, good humour and extremely nice art-work.
I completed the first quest ( took about 20 hours I think ) before I had to give it back. Thumbs up from me.

yea i allmost wish i hadnt sold my PS2 when i saw Okami.
Loved the first God of War. again, missed out on the sequel.

But the only G-O-W i care about now is gears of war.
One of the best games ive ever played.

I think I prefer god of war to gears of war. Gears sure looks nice but the quality of god of war just pushes it way past gears. I like the magic and stuff, they’ve borrowed well from games such as prince of persia (time slowing down) and the star wars games (golden fleece defense reflaction thingy) and it’s all added to the game really well.

Apparently laffy is trying to decide if they should make another one, not sure if there is much greek mythology left though for another one. Maybe Kratos could holiday to rome or something and fight those gods!

… and of course there’s the PSP prequel out later this year… and then today an announcement of a mobile version too

Yea ive allways found this facinating :D
Im not assuming anything about you personally eDen, i can see you own both games, but its somthing ive found funny in the community.

Gears had the financial backing of Microsoft which meant it got marketed up the arse. Its also pretty as hell, and had big guys with guns and aliens. It has all the ingredients of your typical blockbuster game thats gonna sell no matter how good it is.

Fortuntaly for us, its a really well pollished enjoyable game. Maps and weapons (all of which have 2 uses) are balanced immaculately. Its third person, yet accurate. Its cinematic, looks amazing, but the netcode is solid as a rock. And it has a gun with a friggin chainsaw on it! :D

Yet ive found that because it looks at first clance like your typical shoot-baddies game, a lot of so called "intellegent gamers" seem to dismiss it. I suppose all the awards it one at the GDC should sway some minds, but i still find it funny.

Also worth noting thats its a game that isnt too rich in new ideas, but just does a lot of things right. God of War is in the same league, as its essentially Prince of Persia with a big whip, and contextual button sequences. But thankfully for us, its also a fantastic game.

      Okay thats my rant over.

      2 great games :)

God of War 1 wasn’t a bad game i suppose, i got half way through and got stuck and never came back. I did buy the 2nd one though, only reason is that i needed a short game to play after twilight princess and it was the best one available.

Personally, if it’s fun, then I’ll like it. Doesn’t necessarily have to be an original idea or anything. I also think that it’s unfair to say god of war is just like gears in its copycat ways. Simply because the industry is so flooded with shooters and war games based on modern/future battles. God of war is infused with such original artwork and such a great story that, in my opinion, puts it ahead of gears. And gears is so pretty because it’s just the first game out to use the unreal 3 engine. But i love gears! cause it’s fun! simple as.

And I immerse myself into the industry so much, and thats pretty much what my life revolves around (well music too) that I’d like to think that I am relatively immune to marketing strategies. Especially coming from microsoft!

Id put forward that there are as many 3rd person 3d action games. Or at least there were, last generation.

I think that first point could be applied to everyone on this board, by the simple fact they are registered on the board.

And we belong to a community that (for the most part) isnt targeted by many marketing strategies, because our knowledge of games allows us to make educated decisions on what we buy rather that enabling advertising to form our ideas of products. But then there are allways things like XBLA which target the stupidly nostalgic part of our brain that rationalises re-buying Street Fighter 2 for a tenner, for the joy of playing it wirelessly and in "HD". For which im sure many here are guilty, me included. :P

But yea, 2 great games. :)
