Right, so Game in Derry was opening at midnight to launch GTA: SA so myself and the girlfriend decided to go up and get it, they wouldn’t let us pre-order yesterday but said if we came up at 12 we’d probably get a copy.
So, we get to Game at about five to twelve to see a queue of about 300 or 400 people, (for those who know L/Derry, from the door of the richmond centre down to the door of the millennium forum)
It was the worst example of organising a queue I’ve ever seen. They had one member of staff on the door, no security and were only letting 6 people in the store at a time. The worst thing was there was no queue, it was just a mass of people standing in a big clump.
We eventually got in and got the game and it’s looking good from what I’ve played of it. You would expect this sorta madness for slane tickets or somthing but for a game?

I was well chuffed last night when I discovered they were opening at midnight, not because I want San Andreas but because the guy said they were ‘almost certainly’ doing the same for Halo 2 :)
I hope it isn’t as manic as that though, GameStop in Foyleside are also doing a late night opening for Halo2 (at 11 with a dj and giveaways and other pointlessities) they didn’t open at midnight for Grand Theft Auto.

Car physics seem better – a cop swung his baton at us when we we’re getting into a car and he made a dent – nice touch.
Swimming and diving – its the future :p
What did the review say – it makes ‘Shenmue look like Jet set willy’ something like that

I know it’s Japan, but whereas VGs have always been huge over there, it’s only recently that they have attained the same-ish level of societal acceptance & penetration… hohum. So, the point was: you had epic queues in Akihabara 15 years ago, now (after a few tens of millions of PS1s & PS2s) you’re starting to get them in Europe too…
What’s “norn iron”?

norn iron = northern ireland
sorry, the point I was trying to make was that japan has had a great social acceptance of games for ages but i think this is the first time the sort of hysteria around gta has been in the uk, or probably europe for that matter. However this could just go to show that it’s a big emergance of the casual gamer (which is a double edged sword in itself)
I’m hoping it’s only a good thing.
But anyway, your point was good, i was just pointing out that it’s not the norm for over here.
