      Forums generally use this to prevent people double posting by mistake. Also stops spammers going on a rampage.

      its a anti spamming option some boards have, personally i find the word limit in the PM annoying.

      anti spamming options seem too much trouble, untill one day some kid posts 50 new topics about how to get(him) a free ipod!
