Well is there?
Has anyone ever seen Irish pornography. Does it exist?
I only ask because I saw Israeli pornography recently (er….at a friends house….) and it got me thinking….if a country like that made pornography what other places also have ?
(Yes, this is an non-videogame thread…but I didnt know who else to dicuss it with; my access to Irish people is quite limited…plus – its Friday.) -
10/02/2006 at 5:26 pm #29535AnonymousInactive
why is friday Pr0nday to you?
yeah I hear there’s these new up and coming Pr0nStars Mr and Mrs mcCloskey. It’s all fairly amateur though. but wow that woman will do anything.
I’ll post them if you want?

I saw one on the Blizzard of Odd call F****d in Ireland, filmed in some house in Wicklow or the like with a camcorder, starring 2 manky Scanger birds from “bleedin” Dublin and two Polish lads. It was comedy of the highest degree.
Hope that answers your question Ivan.

That’s strange, I was under the very strong impression that pornography was actually illegal in Ireland. With the consequence that you just have to go across the border to get anything… as per bloody usual, it would seem.
I have had the pleasure of watching some English porn (I love some of the accents, it’s very cute), but I’ll be damned if there is any sort of porn industry in Ireland. I’m pretty sure I’d hear about it
Although I have heard rumours that there is a girl around Ramelton that has, in fact, played in a movie. But I don’t believe the movie was actually produced in Ireland. Probably in Derry, I’d say.
Still, I have dreamed about the notion, for years. Any night in an Irish nightclub should convince any sort of person that there is a demand, nay, a need for porn around here.
For a start, if those young kids could get a good wank once in a while, they’d stop getting their 13 years old girlfriends pregnant…
Just my opinion, eh?

I am not surprised, guys are very shy about talking about sex, in Ireland. They’re good at bragging, though. It’s a shame, really.
As for the bit about bisexuality, well, let me put it this way, it’s true

Yep theres meant to be one film in existance as Max said “F***** in Ireland”, to quote on of the lads here “It took me two weeks but I finally found it. Was it worth it? No.” :D

But strangely hypnotic. A few days after watching this (for socialogical research of course), I saw the blonde ‘actress’ in town. The one who does the topless recruitment ad at the start.
There she was walking down Talbot Street with her man. I nearly fell over. I didn’t say anything to her, but I rang a friend. How sad is that?

So only that amateur movie, then? mmmmh… I need to do something about this
But seriously, is it legal or not? I am actually still wondering about that.

Also I just wondered… how come this thread popped up just before Valentines Day? Coincidence? I think not! ;)

I … didnt get that?
But seriously, Ireland needs porn bad.
Maybe doesn’t need to be producing it, but at least it needs some…
I’ve too many single/teen mothers amongst my friends, here, and I’m still convinced if guys could see some skin more often, they wouldn’t be so eager to jump the first girl that comes across… IMHO -

I’d agrue that the fact that kids see so much skin that they think its acceptable to be having sex at such a young age. Sex is absolutelly everywhere in the modern world, and frankly its a bit disgraceful the lengths it goes to. And really if you think that ireland needs porn, i’d have to ask why? You really think its that hard to get?? I’ve never gone looking but I’m sure I could find some without much effort in a very short space of time. Look at the bloody internet, it’ll take you about 5 seconds!
-
17/02/2006 at 1:11 pm #29706AnonymousInactive
I’m a little confused by your question, are you asking is porn legal in this country or are you askig if the making of porn is legal in this country?
For the former I would point to the number of “sex shops” around the cities, and conclude that the sale of porn is legal.
As for the latter I have no idea, but since an Irish porn film has been mentioned I would have to say that that is legal too.
Still a really odd thread though. And no giving kids access to porn wouldn’t reduce pregnancies, I don’t know if it would have any affect at all, but the majority of unplanned pregnacies caused in this country are due to ignorance. The kids get pregnant because they haven’t understood everything invloved yet, and older generations because they weren’t formally told in the first place.

Odd thread, but it’s nice to see it stays civilised.
yeah, I agree that if you give access but no education about it, it’s all pointless and probably counter productive. Gee, if all you’ve ever learnt about sex was taught by watching porn…
I suppose that’s one problem.
But I assume that parents do their job properly and actually teach their children the “facts of life”. Very naive of me, I suppose :?The way I look at it, if you ain’t frustrated, you don’t become so eager to jump anything that moves, forgetting all precaution, and contraception.
It’s the “going out with a loaded gun” argument from There is something about Mary, if you will.
I’ve seen many a mate chatting up ugly birds just because they couldn’t resist Nature’s call… I don’t think safe sex and contraception were among the things in their mind. But anyway, you are right, it’s lack of education that’s the first problem.
Max Marshall, Idora : Let me think about that… no.
I like it here, despite all my whining :) -

I think that’s a pitiful excuse. Its seen in modern society that you need to pull, if you don’t you’re a loser. When I was in uni my flat-mates used to see how could pull the most in a night ( and that was guys and girls ). Its a sad sad world when thats what gets you off…. -

The Irish, having great respect for the Persians, have for a long time followed the great teaching of Herodotus:
If an important decision is to be made, they discuss the question when they are drunk. The following day, the master of the house submits their decision for reconsideration when they are sober. If they still approve it, it is adopted; if it is not, it is abandoned. Conversely, any decision they make when they are sober is reconsidered afterwards, when they are drunk.

I went to the Canaries when I was in uni. Was a fun trip, would never do it again though. The following year I got a job in Florence when all my mates went to Ibiza so I was quiet chuffed I didn’t need an excuse not to go with them. Some of them felt sorry for me that I wasn’t going to be able to go to Ibiza. I felt sorry for them for being stupid. -

My idea of a good holiday is visiting somewhere that’s rich in culture and has beautiful landscapes. I don’t see the point in going to Faliraki just to bed a lot of British and Irish girls in a week. I could do that in any city centre over here if I really wanted to.

Skyclad : that’s a brilliant anecdote, that one. Makes sense, too :)
Omen : at least we agree that the state of society is pitiful.
I never understood the whole thing about Ibiza… I suppose because my grandmother leaves on the coastline just across it, and I had the pain of seeing good old Spain become some tourist whore :(
But somehow, I don’t really feel like I “missed out” or anything. One of my goals in life is to avoid doing stupid things myself. I’d much rather let other people do it and learn from their mistakes :P
All that sex and drugs is a bit overrated, IMHORonny : completely agree with you, on that :)
But even if I can only watch (I am always with my mum and sister), it’s still nice if the locals are beautiful. I love Corsica for that (amongst the many other lovely things about that country). -

Here’s a list of movies that have been banned at some point in Ireland. A good few are adult. (Even a couple of French movies in there…)

I know that the Church had a huge influence, but how could they ban the Life of Brian?!

the first thing the current censor, a certain John Kelleher no less, did when he did to office was unban the Life of Brain and move to a model of classification and audience choice re content rather than state intervention in content. Some things still do get banned but they are very few. See http://www.ifco.ie/ifco/ifcoweb.nsf/web/home?opendocument
that is all I have to say on this thread…having worked on projects for the crisis pregnancy agency here in Dublin my knowledge and insights might not be very conversation generating. Never been to Ibiza either..

Well, it would be an informed opinion. Can’t see the problem with that!
Ronny: funnily, some of the more obscure ones I’ve seen (Story of Ricky, and the Russian one, too). That French one, “Baise Moi”, was very controversial even in France, because of the guy having Aids and not using protection anyway (IIRC).
But From Dusk Till Dawn? Let me guess, that’s cos of the bit about the priest losing his faith, isn’t it?
-
21/02/2006 at 9:22 pm #29804AnonymousInactive
Hrm, that banned list certainly has some oddities in it alrite. The only reason I can see From Dusk Till Dawn being banned was indeed the preacher subject however the sequal was merely banned due to its association with the first I’d say.
Its funny also that some of those titles are considered classics yet they were still banned. Films like A Clockwork Orange, Natural Born Killers and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are all now considered cult classics and while them being banned probably had something to do with it no one can deny the effect they had on people.
One thing that I find hilarious however is the banning of Evil Dead, I mean come one, how can you ban Bruce Campbell? The guy is a genious! :D
Anyone any idea why Get Carter was banned btw?
-
22/02/2006 at 9:38 am #29806AnonymousInactive
Saw The Life Of Brian recently, and actually I can see exactly why it was banned. It really does take the piss out of everything about catholicism. I’m amazed it was even made in 1979 when attitudes were so different. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but the general consenus back in 1979 about anyone criticising anything catholicism must have been almost to think you were a heretic.

Has to be done:
[list:5f2339c475]Centurion: What is this then? Romanes eunt domus, “People called Romanes they go the house”?
Brian It-it says, “Romans, go home”!
Centurion: No, it doesn’t! What’s Latin for “Roman”? [grabs Brian’s ear] Come on, come on!
Brian: Romanus!
Centurion: Goes like?
Brian: Annus!
Centurion: Vocative plural of annus is…?
Brian: Anni?
Centurion: [writes] Romani. And eunt? What is eunt?
Brian: “Go”! Let-
Centurion: Conjugate the verb “to go”.
Brian: Ire; eo, is, it, imus, itis, eunt!
Centurion: So eunt is…?
Brian: Third person plural, present indicative. “They go!”
Centurion: But “Romans, go home” is an order, so you must use the…?
Brian: The… imperative!
Centurion: Which is…?
Brian: I!
Centurion: [twisting Brian’s ear] How many Romans?
Brian: [yelling] I.. Plural, plural! Ite, ite!
Centurion: [writing] Ite. Domus? Nominative? But “go home”, it is motion towards, isn’t it, boy?
Brian: Dative, sir!
[The centurion promptly draws his swords and presses it against Brian’s throat. Brian yells:]
No, not dative! Not the dative, sir! No! The… accusative, accusative! Domum, sir, ad domum!Centurion: Except that domus takes the…?
Brian: The locative, sir!
Centurion: Which is?
Brian: Domum!
Centurion: [writing] Domum… -um [sheathing his sword] Understand?
Now, write it out a hundred times!Brian: Yes, sir, thank you, sir! Hail Caesar!
Centurion: Hail Caesar. If it’s not done by sunrise, I’ll cut your balls off!
Brian: Oh, thank you, sir. Thank you, sir. Hail Caesar and everything, sir![/list:u:5f2339c475]

I remember that one… I also remember how very similar to my Latin classes it sounded at the time :roll:But yeah, you gotta admit, if the christians did react as badly to humour as the muslims, I wonder what the life expectancy of the Monthy Pythons would have been :P It really is so clever about how it takes the piss out of religion, that you can completely see why the Church would freak out…
