Hey there.. just wondering if anyone has done the one year ludo game design course in Ballyfermot? It sounds really interesting. Any feedback?

Are you just leaving school or looking for a change?

well, I’ve got an animation degree but it’s mainly 2D. (flash and traditional) I have the basics in 3Ds Max. I’m looking to apply to a masters in Concept design for video games in Abertay Scotland but I feel that my 3Ds Max skills are no where near ready. I can animate no problem but I can’t seem to grasp modelling and rigging. I was thinking another course in 3Ds Max would be great for me and the Ludo course was all I could dig up which would suit my needs.

I don’t think LUDO is for you then, (current or ex ludo guys please correct me if I’m wrong) as they used to accept only school leavers with no 3rd level education. What about something from the Animation Mentor online courses if its purely 3d stuff you’re interested in? Also the Gnomon school and Digital Tutors have some good DVDs for furthering your skills in particular areas.

I am an Ex Ludo student and I am afraid the training does not go that in depth or it didn’t when I was there. Ludo is a bit more generalist, some coding, some art, some storyboarding etc.

While it does give you the basics of 3d and teach you a lot of areas I think your looking for more specific training.

I would be willing to give you informal training if you understand animation/art already. I understand max’s inner workings quite comfortably myself but don’t have the artists eye to make something look right. I also give training to recruits in 3d max for our game from time to time so have some experience.

Anyway, my email is mrludorama@gmail.com in case you are interested

I’ll look into those. I was avoiding online courses because basically I feel that I want an actual person there to quiz about the complexities of 3D max, but if they’re detailed enough I’ll give them a go. Between envelopes and rigs I find it pretty compicated!! But I’ll give them a go. Thanks very much!
