I made a map using Cryengine 3. You can see a video of it at the link below. Can I get some constructive and destructive criticism from you guys please.

Nice work. Looks good. I don’t really know what’s involved in creating a map like this but if I had one crit it would be about the repeating ground textures. More variety in that main sort of cobbled stone texture and a few more random plants here and there will help break up the repetitiveness. I’m no expert but there my two cents. Looks good though. Are they your own textures or do they come with the Cryengine package?

They are royalty free textures I got of a site. Thanks for the feedback.

Hey isnt that a DIT comp sci project from last year?
Correct me if im wrong of course its just i think i saw this somewhere on seriougames or something.
Good looking map though, agree with the texture criticism but would like to know how much of the geometry is custom made/ textured or stock? (the bridge for example).

This map is my own work and was made over the last 3 months. I have never attended DIT. All of the terrain I created using the cryengine editor and textured myself using royaltly free texture tiles to produce the materials that cover all terrain.
The models are a mix of assets that come with the editor, models from the cryengine community and models i have made myself using sketchup. For instance the large stone bridge, smaller stone bridges, well, tents and guard tower are my own. Since then I have added more models to the map.

Oh right ok then, apologies for the mix up!
Its definitely looking good though, and fair dues for creating/ texturing custom models for it too.
I have never used the cryengine but it looks like you can get serious results using just the built in functionality which is pretty cool.

TBH my custom models are not all that great and I am in desperate need of good modellers and animators.
Just wish I could get more people to join the team.

Looks like a big project. Maybe you should make a concept level first. That way it doesn’t have to be polished but can get across your ideas and will hopefully entice people to join up.

Thats our plan for the moment, written in the post too. Got any projects yourself?

Just doing this level. It will be a tactical shooter with a strong multi-choice story/mission. Go a few people willing to help so it’s not going too bad but cryengine is a steep learning curve.

Feedback would be appreciated.
I am looking for some modelling help if anyone is interested. It would be paid, just something to put in your portfolio.

That is a dramatic improvement over the first video, the texturing is much better.

Thanks, but I am still looking for de-constructive feedback as well so I can really improve this map.
I am looking to put a team together to make a small tactical shooter so I need this to look pretty special to get people’s interest.

The ground textures are much improved, however some of them look very dark (especially the mud/brown textures).
I would look at lightening those are adding some more variety, some areas are still too uniform. Also the transitions between some textures are very abrupt (like between the gravel and mud). You could use objects like rocks or grass to help "blend" these areas together.

I will be changing the diffuse textures for terrain to the recommended Cryengine settings to enable better blending, but I will also be doing more masking with vegetation and objects.
Thanks for the feedback.

That’s great feedback thanks. It’s exactly what I need to improve the map.
Hopefully I will be adding parallax mapping to the ground textures soon and implementing some of the recommended changes, then I can show a new video in a week or so.

I parallaxed the whole terrain but unfortunately I have moved on. An opportunity came up to work with a great mod team using UDK which I couldn’t pass up.
