does anyone know what is happening with the MIDAS project in Dundalk? They received a nice little investment to support start up companies and facillities for digital media companies.
for basic info see http://www.ulst.ac.uk/news/releases/2004/1210.html
might have to put one of our investigative reporters onto it!

Just getting off the ground around now as far as I’m aware. There was a launch a few months ago and I think a project manager has been or is the process of being appointed.
We will hopefully see clustering, cluster support, facilities etc. developed over the coming months.

Hi Aphra, Peter
After almost 4 years of PC & XBOX etc, the 15th of October is my last day officially employed as program manager in Microsoft Games Studios Dublin, Although I will actually be in Derry at Awakenings that particular Day !My first working day as Programme Manager for MIDAS is the following Monday 18th October, so I have arranged to meet a number of old friends and new people at the awakenings event for an informal chin-wag about what’s planned and going to happen in relation to the initiative. Subsequent formal information sessions and visit’s will follow thereafter.
In due course, I will keep everyone up to speed on these boards re: what’s planned, happening, available, possible in relation to the initiative, can’t really do that as yet as I’m still an MS employee at present.
If any other members want to avail of the informal chat aspect – feel free to leave me a private message and I can arrange to meet with you at/ around awakenings. I’m interested in meeting companies, individuals, start-ups currently involved in or planning to become involved in creative digital media, related research, or relevent acedemia in our region – i.e 6 border counties North & south, etc, etc.
As someone said to me on thursday evening at the digital hub networking event; looks like they do recruit poachers as gamekeepers Mick. Just glad he didn’t mention new regimes at asylums :p
THX

Let me be one of the first to publicly congratulate Mick on his appointment.
As someone who’ll be bugging him a lot, I’m sure he’ll do a great job and we at Meedja look forward to participating in whatever inititaives arise.
