So folks… does any date in November suit us all?

I have no idea what I’m doing yet but I’m not booked on any Friday yet. Presuming we want a shindig next month, let’s try to find a date that works for us and get it nailed nice and early!

10th and 24th look alright at my end. Hopefully this time I’ll be able to stay for more than a couple of mins. :D

except the 24th or 25th make sense as that is the week of CGames in DIT. Ernest Adams is doing a workshop on the Sat and I take it folk will be coming up from around the country for those dates.

I am out of the country weekend before.

      24th sounds good. Where?

      ah, the perennial question.

McGruders is ok, but not so good for the walk back into town if we want to stay out.

Back to one of the old haunts – O’Neills on Suffolk Street, Toners on Baggott Street…?

      just not Doyles!

by the way, is Sat night better for those travelling up/down from the country? Might be a bit of a rush after work on Friday night. Speak now…or it will probably be the Friday night

Have we ever had a shindig on a Saturday? I wonder how the turnout would be. It could be worth having a go.

Now we just need a date!

Nov 24th or 25th? – cool, My ladyfriend and I will be over in Dublin on those dates

I think Friday would be better day for me, but I could also do Saturday.

      See you then.

well no major clammoring for Sat…so Friday it is I guess..

Since CGames is in DIT we might think of moving our shindig somewhere in that vicinity. Do people know Ryans on Camden Street – just up from the Village and Whelans heading towards the Bleeding Horse?

Shindig after the conference is a good idea. Well done, whomever (aphra, as usual?).

Is The Long Haul still open? Hasn’t fallen down yet? Although, it might be crowded…

Excellent, now that I work more than 10 yards away from you I can use all those artist jokes I’ve been saving up. :D

As for the venue, may I suggest The Long Stone just across from Doyles on the corner of Townsend St, nice pub and its central. Plus they have Kopperberg which is always good

Was watching a documentary the other week which basically said that all artists are pretty much brain damaged normal people. Made a lot of sense.

I was in the Long Stone about two weeks ago and it was appalling. Apparently they have changed ownership and while I am getting old we couldn’t near ourselves think, let alone speak. They had a DJ doing spot prizes!

Long Hall is still open but gets very jammed..post smoking ban the old body odours can be a bit over the top!

I still plug for Ryans – after work crowd will be leaving about 8pm and we can all slot in nicely. Kind of a done up old man’s pub…with a very local crowd. we could get some funny looks.

those who want can head to any number of venues after…including, what is that classy place in the old cinema??

Aw thats a pity, I used to really like that place but haven’t been for awhile. Seems to be the way most of the quieter pubs are going nowadays. :?

Ryans sounds interesting, especially since I’m used to getting the old funny looks from my time in Donegal.

It can’t be bait if you don’t believe in the existence of ‘normal’ people…Artists are just trained at expressing or something like that, so it’s easier to spot the weird. I mean, does Dave really classify himself as normal? Who’d take that seriously?

Ah give him a break lads – thats Jizzledon, his character from WOW talking, and clearly having donned the plus 2 Socks of Slander.

He gets a little confused sometimes, our Dave, probably wasn’t the TV he was watching, more than likely he was looking at fire sprites dancing in the flickering flame of the sole candle that lights his programming attic.

here is a picture of it – http://www.irish-architecture.com/buildings_ireland/dublin/southcity/camden_street/ryans.html

The address is 92 Camden Street Lower, Dublin 2.

Map – not far from Trinity – maybe 15 minutes walk – to an area sometimes called the Village quarter, Find DIT on the map (big blue box) and to the right you will see Wexford street which changes into Camden Street.

Indeed, while most of the events during the week will be more games/competition orientated we will be having talks by Aphra, (hopefully) Mal and also Neil Costigan, a researcher here in DCU who has been working on the PS3 for the last while. He’ll be demoing not only his work on using the console for Cryptographic work but also having a few games for those interested in seeing it. ;)

I think we’d benefit from creating a structure for our shindigs. I remember us discussing this at one point but it never really came to anything. Perhaps it would work if we had a gathering every six to eight weeks. That gives us something to stick to while allowing the flexibility to select the best date for everyone.

I’m very interested in the sounds of that – I’ve heard of Niel Costigan before, too, I can’t remember where, though.

Any ideas of the exact date?[/quote:bcd8598f90]
I’ve PM’d the details to Aphra so she should have them up soon. In the meantime, the talk is on here in DCU this Tuesday at 12pm. There’s more info in the link below but if you have any other questions just drop me a PM. :)
