Ahoy Hoy !!! I’m new to this Forum, Looks great.
About time for something like this here in Ireland.
Any news when the competition results will be anowanced ??
The five finalist look interesting, but have we not seen some of these before???
Pitbull Frenzy is the same as my Panasonic game which comes with the phone.
Fish Tank Fire is a version of Microsoft Pipes.
Spin is again a version of Bat Ball.
Its interesting looking at the Finalists as they all have somthing different.
I also don’t think the prototypes do any of them justice.
Especially Vodoo which the prototype has made very dificult. The N GAGE’s new platform is able suport full 3d graphics to PS1 standard and hopfully we will see this in the winning game.
Good luck to all..

[/quote:45b4bc5b06]Personally I think both Spin and Fish Tank Fire are the best thought out ideas in the compo.
I’d like to see Spin in a 3D version actually, that would remove some of its repetitive nature after a few minutes.

Hi Festoon,
Yeah it would be good to see a 3d version of spin, but I think that it still has very limited playability.
Have you seen that some of the games have aditional documentation with them. I gives a better insight into what the games are about.
Its interesting looking at Voodoo Vengence as you can build your own caracter in the game as the person to use as your voodoo doll. I think aswell that it has potential as you could download aditional torments to enhance the game.
I think that Fireman kelly has some potential but only a 3d version could really show that.
For my money I think the order should be :
1. Voodoo Vengence.
2. Firefighter Kelly.
3. Spin.
4. Fish Tank Fire. ( Where’s the Fire)
5. Pitbull Frenzy. ( A.K.A Herding Sheep. see Panasonic )Let me know what order you think…

[/quote:9509d57b2f]Hmm, I have a bit of bias here as one of my colleagues developed Fishtank Fire but here goes:
1. Fishtank Fire/Spin
I genuinely can’t choose here as I love the puzzle style of Fishtank and the huge potential for Bluetooth multiplayer yet similtaneously love the instant playability of Spin. I mean I have concerns about the predicted interest curve for Spin but that doesn’t seem to bother Snake players. Fishtank is perfect for mobile on the move. The Fire is irrelevant!
3. Firefighter Kelly.
Bit of a ‘Is that it?’ feeling with this one.
4. Pitbull Frenzy.
I fear this would be too fiddly and exacting for mobile controls.
5. Voodoo Vengence.
Maybe the demo doesn’t do it justice but where’s the skill? It all seems a bit arbitary to me and thats not engaging (pun not intended)
To be honest I would class the top two as the only fully-formed and cohesive ideas in the compo while the other three need to go back for a slight rethink to make them more entertaining for the player. My views anyway.

Just remember those demos were written in under a week all told, so the simpler games (like spin) definately had an advantage over the more complicated games (vengeance, fishtank). Knowing the people behind some of the entries, its really not possible to make a fair judgement based on what is contained within those games :(

But that IS what we’re asked to make the decision upon.

Ahoy Hoy to all !!!
Hi Festoon / Skyclad.
Its interesting that you say that there was only a week to make the demos. It does show. I take your point about judging them on the demos, so maybe we should judge them, mainly with the documentation then.
I see that you know one of the entrants (Festoon) so I can see that you would have a slightly bias opinion then to Fish tank fire.
As you say the pick up and play ability is key to these games to work.
You talk about the predicted interest curve for Spin, “but that doesn’t seem to bother Snake players ” you say, but as I am sure you have seen on the N Gage that we are talking much more advanced gaming experience than a 2nd generation mono screened phone.
Thats why I like Voodoo vengence as it has a pick up and play factor that if you get bored with the torments you have , you can download more to keep the interest there for your next victim.
I can see some inspiration for Fishtank must have come from the Sky News Weather sponsor. ( Looks familiar )
I think that the Plumbing game genre peaked with the Mario Brothers back in the Late eighties.
We will hopfully know soon the out come of the comp. and I’m sure many would agree.

Hmm… I never did put up any additional material for the game, because I was so chuffed with the demo I didn’t realize what purpose the additional material would serve. The official design document did have a few notes towards further levels and powerups, in the style of “Bomberman”.Oh well, my own fault, but still I’m very proud as the demo has good ‘pick up and play’ appeal. As I said on the other topic, I liked mine and Spin the best. The web demos were the same quality as the first ones I saw at the opening in the gallery.
According to the press release the voting should be over now – but the site hasn’t changed.

As far as Phil was saying to me last Friday Fishtank Fire will only be released in the States as an N-Gage game which is a bit dissapointing….. but only just a bit : )
Fair play Phil…..congrats and keep up the good work!
