ya does look sparse. also the texture resolution and detail on the buildings etc seem pretty low res. Overall looks like they’ve traded off detail for frame rate.
not sure i like the merging of a character into your own, doesnt seem jaw dropping, just looks like one model placed on top of the next and some black smoke particles.
do we know if this game has online like GTA ? presumably right?

While the textures do look surprisingly low res I have a feeling the video itself was designed as more of a demo of the various gameplay features than anything that was supposed to show off the graphical prowess of the engine.

true but if your showing off game play you better have the environment looking right or it will distract the viewer from taking in the game play.

I dunno, maybe I’m just buying into the hype but I expected a lot better, even in its currently unfinished state. If you saw the heavily produced and heavily hyped dev diary on gametrailers the other week, the devs are all talking about this "crazy vision" the art director had of his take on New York.
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30718.htmlThe clip uses gorgeous concept images that bear little or no resemblance to any of the gameplay footage I’ve seen to date, the look of which actually reminds me a bit of The Getaway on PS2 or something. Claims that the look of the game is ‘frighteningly close to the concept’ are totally unfounded IMHO, if the included pre-alpha footage is in any way representative.
Now that I watch it again, I’m thinking this is probably just more hype building too early on in development, without the goods to back it up.
What about that art director though?! – "when you put a crazy mind in the situation that I’m in, you can only get innovation"

I have to agree with Pete on this one, in some ways it does look rather last generation. The game play does look kinda interesting though.

MotorStorm got a lot of flack pre-release, so I’m gonna hold off any remarks of this one until it comes out and I can judge it myself.
I dont care if it looks a bit ropey if its a blast to play

Ansell reckons the core story will take you about 10 hours to complete, with another 10 hours of secondary missions available. You’ll be doing it all on your own as Radical has abandoned plans for a co-op mode. "We were excited about the idea, and still are, but we decided to put all our effort into single-player," says Ansell. "Games like Mass Effect and BioShock have had great success with solid single-player, and we’d like to emulate that to make an amazing single-player game."[/quote:f51282207d]

True but i suspect the screenshots have had some post processing done to them ;) unless the engine and environment has drastically improved since that game play video. perhaps the game play video was old. Although i have to ask who let that video out in the first place because it wasent up to scratch. ill still grab a copy though ;)

Don’t ruin this for me Peter, I’m living in a lovely state of denial at the moment. :)

Its been pushed back to 2009, so still a good ways off
"Since its announcement, Prototype has been regarded by many as groundbreaking and taking the open-world genre in new directions, and in the simplest explanation possible, we need more time to deliver the game the team initially set out to create,"

hope it wasent because of our comments on the games video.
Its cool though its pushed back, allows them to polish it and who knows perhaps multiplayer can be put back in now..
Its probably a good choice also in that GTA is probably going to take some light away from it this year, while there wont be man sandbox games next year (perhaps saint row 2 but the first game was poor in my opinion).

I would expect that GTA is the reason for the delay.
