Apparently Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson wants to fund development of a sequel to Psychonauts which Tim Schaefer has already pitched on numerous occasions!

Been watching this story very eagerly.
Psychonauts is maybe on my top ten games list, and I always recommend it to anyone as a good example of game design.
Very very excited.
I’m suprised Schafer didn’t get the funding. Psychonauts is the quintessential sleeper hit. It has a much bigger following now than it ever did at its launch.

Amazing stuff, the Minecraft "Pile of Cash", used to fund one of the big game designers! Finished Psychonauts a while back, love it; I think Shafer is in the bad books since Brutal Legends, he should have stuck with PC ;p I would have bought the game then. Another case of good critical acclaim poor sales!
Kudos to Notch!

Tim Schafer seems to be doing all the right things recently.
similar to our guys in bitSmith, he posted a proposal on kickstarter with a target of $400,000. He’s at $370,000 …..in 9 hours :D
check it out here:

Amazing, has exceeded 407k now, he plans on using the extra cash raised to fund a documentary and localisation!

It’s now up to 821k. Unbelievable.
I knew Kickstarter was a great idea, and with the recent success of bitSmiths Ku on Fundit (Irish Kickstarter) and cheap plug http://www.fundit.ie/project/k—episode-1 leads me to believe that crowdfunding is set to become a huge part of how small studios develop and fund games.
Love it.

Awesome, I’ve never played Psychonauts myself, but one of the lads I live with picked it up on the Steam Sale at Christmas and after hours of looking over his shoulder at it I can safely see myself getting it as a self-reward after my thesis is submitted.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Wow its at 1.2 million now. the internet has spoken. :D
The top reward for donating over 10,000 is lunch with Tim Schafer. My guess is his lunchtimes will be booked for quite some time.

silly me, I see it is limited to 1 person. Just as well I suppose.
Its up to 1.3 million. That is amazing.
but even with the 30,000 ordinary punters in either the 15 or 30 dollar pledges would have covered the requested funding. They should find out how much it would cost to buy the rights to monkey island off lucasarts and do a kickstarter for that.
