I am just waiting for a few event details to be confirmed before we make a definitive announcement here but it is looking like we will go for the weekend of the 23/24/25 Nov. there could be a few game related events on in TCD and DIT that weekend so it should be a good weekend to get a few industry people and students together.
It seems like ages since we had a proper get together.
More later

Peter…for the sake of your passport you probably shouldn’t! You wanna make it home for Christmas?
shindigs are just informal meetings in a pub to share ideas, projects, gossip etc…meet people from the boards..find out what is going on…
they happen every month or two….

-
30/10/2007 at 10:37 pm #39089AnonymousInactive
I’d be up for going, if I can.
-
30/10/2007 at 10:43 pm #39090Aphra KKeymaster
generally closer to the time we pick a day, time and pub….if there are events in DIT and TCD that weekend it will be somewhere near there in Dublin. some of us can PM you numbers if you don’t know anyone so you can check where we are…

will book that date so. Looking forward to it
Wonder if we can get Hannigan back over for it… and maybe even Conway will descend from the lofty realm (Galway) and sully his bell bottoms with a Dublin appearance…
-
31/10/2007 at 3:01 pm #39103AnonymousInactive
Hannigan will be busy getting his shagging level ready, he’ll be working nights and weekends.
I’m joking, and yet worryingly, I’m wondering if there is some truthin that statement :(

Well, it has been a while since I’ve met up with the great unwashed horde, so if I can get the finger out* in November I might actually be able to make the arduous and unforgiving journey from Galway to Dublin.
I’ll also have to check with the evil one if she’ll let me go out and play…
* People who actually know me in person will no doubt be worried that I actually have my finger in something…

Ernest Adams is presenting in DIT on Saturday 24th, what was the pub people went to on that night last year ? ( I was there; honest, but like Woodstock, if you remember it then … ). Count me in, I’ve work that day and will be traveling to the big smoke Saturday evening. Have to take the red eye ( with red eyes ) to Birmingham Sunday Morning.

I think that Ernest Adams is in town and might be persuaded to join us for a drink – he has done before. His workshop is on Sat. the 24th in DIT so somewhere near to Aungier Street might be good. Open to suggestions though…

if you keep going up Georges St. (away from temple bar) you will see DIT Aungier St on the right after a while. Keep going a little bit further and you will see The Corner Stone in the corner between Kevin St and Aungier St/Wexford St.

I had a good night, even decided to join the forums because of it. My name is Baz if anyone remembers meeting me.
Everyone I met was bang on, even got asked to help out on a game. =]I’ll definitely be at the next event and hopefully we can get a few more from the IET course down.

Yep, had a really good night, nice crowd there in the end. Twas great to see some of the old Torc lads too although I’ll probably have to put some effort into finding a more manly drink for Pete next time.

Sounds like this one was a big turn out. Well if there one on during December I should make it. Back from the 19th. And should be in Dublin one of the days before christmas (20-21st).

25/11/2007 at 4:46 pm #39406AnonymousInactive
Aye it was a great turnout. It was good to see a lot of old faces and a fair few new faces too.
I was telling my friend on the way down that something unique always happens that can only happen in Dublin. You may find yourself in the middle of a communist rally, anti-communist rally, Thin Lizzy memorial show, or any other random thing. Yesterday was no different. Russell (prat with a t) Brand was randomly signing autographs in a book shop. In fairness he was really dead on. Just another trip to Dublin…
Anyone else notice that the band played Breakfast at Tiffany’s at least 5 times?

Wouldnt be able to make the next shindig if it was before christmass, just after I will be up that way again. Would like to drift into one these things again sometime.

Random drunken lad whipping a cigarette from my mouth while he walked by before I even got a chance to light it, I’ve been here 10 years and I’ve never seen that happen. :shock:Anyone else notice that the band played Breakfast at Tiffany’s at least 5 times?[/quote:be5db47f12]
Aye, but they were very good all the same…the positioning of their PA right beside our tables aside of course. ;) -
26/11/2007 at 11:55 am #39417Aphra KKeymaster
thanks to everyone for coming along last Friday night. Not sure how many there were but around 20ish. We took over the cornerstone and were very comfy until the musicians started. Ernest Adams popped in to say hello and people travelled from Belfast and Galway to be with us.
Some people felt we were getting a bit negative here on the boards about how things are developing in ireland, we need to be more supportive and positive. Perhaps we are getting a bit cynical because there were a lot of very talented people in the pub last Friday night and a lot of eager students also working hard to improve their skills. The turnout alone showed that there is still a good cohort of people involved and watching what is happening on gd.ie even if they are not posting every day. So chins up everyone..
Good to meet the new folks…just a note to new and nearly new people on the boards. We want to keep the focus here on game development issues rather than on favourite games. So this is the place to post if you have questions about how artists or programmers achieved certain things, about who is who in the industry etc. We try to keep the fan stuff to a minimum.
Mind you the occasional ‘hoff comment’ is tolerated. :)
Aphra.
