Great to see everyone and get the chance to put faces to names of the people I haven’t met, and catch up with those of you who I have, hope you all enjoyed yourselves and there was a great turnout, my count was around thirty while I was there.

i did turn up to maguires.. at about 10 ish..
but it just looked like it was full of normal fri night punters.. there was no section where i could descern a separate party..
next time.. i have to get there at the same time as everyone else …. before it disintergrated into the general mellee ..
the only face i knew to look out for was aphras… from the piccie on her website..and i didn’t spot anyone who resembled her :D
ahhh.. well..
glad you all had a goodie..

There was an area that was set aside for us at the back, but I would say due to the success of the evening we outgrew it quite quickly…
So when’s the next one?

Aphra’s away this week, but I think we should do it again around the same time next month. I really enjoyed meeting everyone, it was definitely worth the journey and I’m already looking forward to the next one…
-
30/09/2003 at 3:50 pm #9691AnonymousInactive
it was a very good night… i reckon there must have been 25 – 30 people over the course of the night
aphra was talking about trying for a monthly slot and seeing how that turns out

here with my fuzzy head after the PlayStation party last night…just caught this. Clare did you get the tickets ok for last night? You mean to say we were all too normal looking for gamedevelopers? We will have to try harder…
On that note I met a couple of gamedevelopers people at the Sony party and the suggestion is that we dress up for the next shindig given that it is Halloween! ..
but seriously I think we should try and meet again at the end of the month and I see that the last Fri of Oct. is the 31st so that might be good. Maguires seemed a nice place too..but we can go back to Toners as long as I ring them early about it this time..and get in before the birthday parties
Aphra.

Sounds good, somewhere a little bigger than the snug in Maguires this time, providing there’ll be as many there as the last time of course. Looking forward to it. Wonder what Jab will dress up as…?!

If folks want to move closer to the city center, I can get one side of Mahaffeys set aside for us, which incidentally serves some of the best guinness in Dublin. The space can cater for 20-30 people quite comfortably, with loads of standing space nearby also.

Sounds good, its a nice quiet place for a post-work chat on a Friday evening

:D aphra.. thanks for dropping the tickets round..
i ended being booked for a Big Band extravaganza over at the concert hall.. well the rehearsal for the thursday show anyway
 i need a night off..
i’ll crack it yet.. but us musicians are busy bees right now..

Mahaffy’s would be an ideal venue… never gets too crowded & fairly central
-
13/10/2003 at 9:23 am #9730Aphra KKeymaster
ok sounds good…Dave can you find out if the 30 or 31st Oct. is not booked for a birthday party of something?
..we should probably hang a gamedevelopers poster or two up this time so people know where we are in the pub..
Aphra.

Hey all,
what time is everybody arriving at Mahaffeys?
is anybody dressing up? (it is halloween after all)
i don’t actually know any of you personally – i haven’t even posted much on the forum – been reading most of the threads though, I was at that playstation party, just didn’t know who to look for to say hi!
was a good party though no?anyway, do you actually have a room booked, or is it just a case of grabbing a few tables?
i don’t know any of your faces, so if you see a 24ish looking, semi-bald guy with a scraggly beard/smig who looks kinda lost…invite him over!
;)
thanks,
Craig -

I hope to get there around 7 or so… has there been any movement on the suggestion to ‘brand’ ourselves somehow for easier identification?
-
29/10/2003 at 7:51 pm #9842Aphra KKeymaster
I have posters..will put them up if the pub is ok with that…they have the logo from this site and our name on them – I’ll bring a big pen to draw arrows!

Looks like I will be missing yet another shindig. All work and no play is definitely making Alan a dull boy.
Hope you all have a good one and I look forward to seeing some photos of the Guinness sponsored indoor hurling!
Best,
Alan -

Hi all!
I enjoyed meeting you all (well, maybe not all, I lost count at some point…) at the shindig last night and hope to see you at the next.
Thanks for some interesting conversations, some lucid explanations for the unsuspecting literature student with no technical background whatsoever, and everything else…
— Julian.

I second that, it was particularly good to see the Havok lads there. 2 more days til The Matrix : Revolutions opens, looking forward to proving Skyclad’s matrix within a matrix theory WRONG!!;)
-
03/11/2003 at 2:43 pm #9865AnonymousInactive
I do of course look forward to proving myself right, as always! Either that, or arguing how the Wachowskis got it all wrong and how I should have been right. Still looking forward to Return of the King more though – I predict that
Frodo will get to mount doom and have a fight with Gollum and gollum will fall in with the ring…
. Damn I’ll be good if I’m proven right on both accounts :)

Skyclad on the Matrix!!!! That would have been a good debate. Now I’m really ticked off that I couldn’t make it!
Anyway…
Apparently the ‘matrix within-a-matrix’ theory IS the big twist, Trinity will die and the matrix consumes Neo or so I’ve heard ;)
Has anyone got tickets for the 2pm showing on the 5th???
-
03/11/2003 at 2:55 pm #9867AnonymousInactive
nononononononono….. :)
Neo is a program and will have to choose between destroying the matrix and freeing everyone, or keeping the matrix and keeping Trinity.
Thus he has to destroy himself to save her (and everyone else’s) lives.
/me sees this thread degenerating…

You will all be diappointed by the new Matrix. 1 or 2 out of 10 max. Sorry I missed the Halloween night meet but I got work piled on top of me. I understand a lot of you are wondering where the Nokia Ngage Demos are. So am I. Perhaps everyone one the list could mail upstart (twice). Other than that. I know nowt.

That would be the day of the exhibition opening in the Digital Hub Play thang. I’ve heard nothing since then.

Saw Revolutions last night. I don’t know what I was expecting really, but I must confess I am disappointed. The Zion scenes, humans vs sentinels, are breathtaking and the “superbrawl” in the matrix is very good too but I feel this is the weakest of the trilogy. Some of the questions raised in Reloaded aren’t fully answered either IMHO. Anyhow if any of you have seen it I’d love to hear what you thought, maybe start a new thread seeing as this apparently links to the forthcoming Matrix Online game. Oh and Skyclad, without giving anything away, ->;)

I saw it, and well…All I can say is that the Wachowskis are the ones who were wrong – not me :)
Graphics were excellent – and felt like part of the film unlike Star Wars, script was good, action was amazing. Would have made an amazing individual film, sadly it was the third part of a trilogy, and had to live up to so much more.

Votes for Thursday or Saturday? I think getting Mahaffey’s on thursday will be quite difficult, so it might require a change in venue again :(

I vote for Saturday, around the 7pm mark again?
