Holy crap! That must have cost a pretty penny. Maybe sony should not give away free HDTV’s and instead put back in the hardware support for backwards compatability in the EU version of the PS3?

I reckon that if there was a sudden price crash there would be a rush. Knock 100 euro off and watch the PS3’s fly, then put the price back up and people will continue to buy because their friends have one…maybe. Better to sell some stock then none. It seems all the mud slinging about price has stuck. Its kinda odd that the EU region has to pay more for an inferior console too.

I don’t think its just the price. In fact I’m pretty much sold on the PS3, the thing is I’m not sold on HDTV.

As a gamer I don’t have much time for watching movies, or anything more than a couple of hours of tv a week. I think sony have pushed how much better the PS3 experience will be on HD so much that I don’t think I would get my money’s worth from the console unless I had a HD screen to play it on.

Giving away free HDTVs only adds to that feeling.

Thats a good point. Also even if the PS3 dropped in price i would be more inclined to buy a HDTV for the 360 (reading text is horrible without one)

The only 2 people I know who got one, krudd of these forums and another guy I know, their ps3’s were faulty and they had to bring them back. One wouldn’t connect to the internet, and the other one the memory card reader was broken. So I’ve been told so far anyway! they got new ones straight away though cause there is loads in stock

      WTF?

Their launch titles were nearly all out on 360 about 6 months ago. Also wait till you take some online, they frickin blow.. The amount of lag ruins the games big time.. 360 live all the way.

This weekend (it was sunny too) in Liverpool city centre, Nintendo set up HUGE screens with people playing the Wii Sports. Nice way to make people forget about the other consoles I thought.

Oh and you could get PS3’s everywhere…no where was sold out.

MotorStorm has done well though (sorry)

Yes, but if you work for Sony, the fact that nowhere sold out is a testiment to how well stocked everywhere was ;)

@eden … my card reader wasn’t broken!! there is something dodgey about it. For some reason my pro duo stick won’t fit in. My friends does and if I use the old pro adapter it fits in…was wierd!!

But over the weekend my shop sold just under 200 from fri, sat and sun. Yes I got one myself and I am very happy with it! As for the HDTV part, I got a Beko tv for around 400 and everything looks crisp on it. The online on Motorstorm is a bit wierd cos games take ages to start and then when they do alot of players just leave. Little lag for me though! GT HD is nice because it’s free. Now i’d like to get a bluray to try that bit out.

Yeah but their original games are at least on par with the launch games for the 360. (Kameo, perfect dark, PGR 3…if i remember right)

Yeah thats what i meant in comparision with the 360 launch lineup or the wii. Theres alot there with 30 odd games to choose from and they do have virtua fighter 5. I didnt buy one this weekend though. Maybe when the ps2 runs out of steam ill go next gen.

My biggest rub is the lack of hardware supported backward compatability on EU versions…we pay more god damn it!!!

      Hmmm…

Went into my local Gamestop there in Wexford on Sunday, mainly to get STALKER: Shadow Of Chernobyl but also to have a quick go at the PS3. Anyhow when I was at the counter, I asked the guy serving how was the PS3 doing. To my surprise he said that there were still plenty available.. Then when I asked him if he had any Wiis in stock he said that it was still sold out, and probably would remain that way for quite a while.

I don’t think thats a very good sign for the PS3 so far. A machine launched months ago is still sold out yet the PS3 on launch cannot even manage that. Of course that’s not getting into the nitty gritty of how many Wiis versus PS3s the shop actually gets in, but still it doesn’t seem too good..

So how many people were out for the launch at 12am? [/quote:31d8d5866e]

Was out at that time myself, but it wasn’t to get the PS3..

      I like this :)

      PS3 breaks UK console records
Chart Track says approximately 165,000 PlayStation 3s were sold in console’s first two days on market in UK, second-best regional debut only to PSP.

Thatd be alot of the early adopters though, the price point is sure to slow sales to the less hardcore gamers. The 360/ps3 reminds me of the playstation and the saturn. I think the Saturn was 100 pounds dearer than the competition and more difficult to develop for.

Feck it Sony, how did ye make that mistake?

Sony will be fine. Give it 6months and the real battle of the consoles will begin when the 2nd\3rd wave 360 titles hit the shelves. Christmas is going to be great this year for gamers on either of the platforms.

As for saturn being harder to develop for, dunno about that. From what i hear off the lads here from ps1 days, we’re all lucky were not developing for that thing, was meant to be a nightmare of assembly books.
Im happy to say ps3 and 360 are actually quite nice to develop for, 360 being much easier though.

      Gatting?

The closet I could find from the Urban Dictionary is gating…. though I doubt you mean that…

The act of dating a male (assumed to be straight) and making them turn gay, upon ending the realationship

Megan used her gating magic to turn another cutie.[/quote:0dfdad0d8a]
