Hi all. I’m looking to do this course from pulse college in Dublin Full Time FETAC Level 6 Media Production EMPRO Games Analysis & Design. Has anyone done it or know anyone that has done it that can give me any kind of insight into what they gained from it.
Thanks

The level 5 course was discussed earlier on the forums
see http://www.gamedevelopers.ie/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5852
Is this an extension of that course?

Thank you very much for the reply. I knew there would be a thread and I had a look through the sections but I was expecting Pulse to be in the thread title so didn’t find it.
I dont think its an extension I think its the same course.
I have my interview on Monday for this and if all goes well and there answers to my questions are what I’m looking for I will definately look into doing this. I just hope at the age of 24 (on the day of starting the course) its not to late to get into 3d design.

The Pulse website now says its a level 6 rather than a level 5. Can anyone shed any light on this?

perhaps that is a question you can ask them in your interview!
Usually these different levels require different curricula and different expectations
see http://www.fetac.ie/fetac/employers/FETAClevels-meanbusiness.

If they have upgraded and changed the course let us know and we will change our listing on gd.ie too…

I spoke to the receptionist earlier over the phone. She said its a recent upgrade but she is not sure what exactly is changed that I would have to speak to the lecturer who is the guy interviewing me so i will ask him what the story is and report back on Monday.

Hi Jaza
I’d definitely ask about the lectures delivering the course. All too often, these courses "claim" to be taught by industry professionals and it ends up being delivered by people who havent worked in the games industry in a long time or ever in some cases.
In the end of the day, its the quality of the lecturers and the links to industry that really make such courses worth the cash.
Maybe tell them you’ll pay the balance of fees once you have started and met the lecturers and established it is what you are looking for.
Hope this helps

K[/quote:0840eea9d8]Cheers mate.
I had the interview yesterday and I did ask that. They said the guys they have doing the lectures are still working in the industry at the moment which is why the class is 1-9 instead of your standerd 9 o clock start because most of them come from work. They have the open day on Thursday so I will be going to that and the lecturers will be there at the time so I will be definately looking to talk to them.
I found out that Pulse from next year on will be running a 3 year degree course on games development and have recently (2 weeks ago) met with members of a few gaming companies in Ireland to see how they can improve the education for the games industry in Ireland. The guy said the companies approached Pulse for this meeting. He named some of the companies aswell, he said the ceo of popcap (before ea bought them) was there aswell as a representitive of EA themselves. He mentioned one or two others aswell but I can’t remember off the top of my head.
