Hi folks,
Firstly I’d like to introduce myself, my name is Jonathan and I am a recruitment specialist for the gaming industry (games and online gambling) and I have recently partnered with Riot games to help them with their recruitment drive for their office here in Dublin.
This is the first time I have gone to a forum to recruit people, usually it’s LinkedIn or Monster.ie but Riot have a very specific requirement for their new recruits, they have to LOVE League of Legends! They are looking for all kinds of Marketing/QA/Localisation/NOC/Desktop support/Player Support/Business development people and LoL experience is as important as professional experience to them.
If anyone is interested or knows someone who might be interested, post a reply or PM me!
Thanks and regards,
Jonathan

Also, if you have any questions about careers in other gaming companies just ask, I might not work with all of them but I will probably know what they are doing and who to talk to!

it is interesting that you include games and gambling together….
most people separate them out, esp EI.
have you more details on the jobs? Contracts, renumeration etc.

Hi Aphra,
Thank you for your reply, I work with both gambling companies and gaming companies because my professional background is in the gambling industry (paddypower, Full Tilt Poker) and I have playing computer games since before I could talk! No reason to leave either out!
Regarding the roles, they are all permanent full time jobs and we do not have specific salary ranges in place, the salaries will be based on the candidates expectations.
For further details feel free to PM me or email me at jonathan@stelfox.ie and we can discuss your particular area of expertise and see if there is a fit.
I can’t stress how important your love of LoL is to them! It is worth more than a masters!

I do not think we should allow recruitment companies, or people representing recruitment companies, to post here.
If Riot want to post here themselves I’m all for that.
Can we discuss deleting this thread, or not?

Hi Faerdan, that’s fair enough if it is against the forum rules for a recruiter to contact candidates here. As I said, I have never gone to a forum before to advertise jobs, the only reason I am doing it now is because Riot want everyone they hire to be an LoL nut.
I thought that LoL players would be interested in knowing about the opportunities that Riot themselves do not have time to post like this due to the amount of applications they receive through the game or organically.
I’m not going to pursue anyone here or spam the site, anyone who is interested can contact me directly. I wont be posting specific job adverts or anything like that, just want people to know that the option is there.
I don’t really see how this could effect anyone outside those interested, is there a particular reason why you oppose the idea?

We don’t exclude all recruitment agencies from gd.ie – we have in the past posted some information in our jobs section – but we limit promotional posts.
If you want to send us information on specific jobs and their details we will consider posting in our jobs section. Send to info@gamedevelopers.ie
However the people on here are mostly interested in making games – so those are the most relevant jobs.

While I’m sure you are not coming here with the intention of causing ripples, the point of the matter is that you have registered as a user to recruit for other companies. We’ve hundreds of recruiters in this country, at least another 50 that recruit for games/gambling, and the worry here is that we end up with a board that is nothing but a recruiters resource rather than a game developers resource if the rest of the recruiters believe it is ok to post ads here regardless. We tend to accept job listings from companies themselves and experienced posters because they can contribute a lot more to the site than a recruiter (no offence meant, just yours is a skillset we’re not looking to develop.)
Hopefully this will make a bit more sense?

I agree too, there are plenty of ways to reach our users without having to post here, and to be honest if Riot wanted to advertise their jobs here directly, they know that they could do so for free and not have to worry about fees and commissions via a recruiter.
We’ve kept recruiters away from the forums for a long time, and if we let one recruiter on the forums do this, every single other one will follow quickly, and we have gotten through ten years without having anything to do with gambling on this forum, and I’d like to keep it that way.
An alternate for GD.ie is to charge a modest fee for posting a listing on the site, recruitment companies have to pay to get their jobs up on irishjobs.ie etc and they’re making between 10% and 20% of the annual salary of the person they’re placing (so if the job is 30k, they get 3k or 6k commission for the placement).
With this in mind, if the company is a member of the community, it should be free to post as many jobs (especially if a GD.ie member has a realistic change of getting it) as they want for free, but if the person is from a 3rd party who is going to make a profit out of a placement they source via GD.ie, then a nominal fee (towards the food at the next shindig, server costs etc) should be in place.
After all, it’s one of the most targeted places on the net for the Irish game development community, and a PayPal charge would be fair.
Just my 2c

I’m uncomfortable with recruiters advertising here. I have no problem with jobs posts direct from companies (I have placed them here myself on behalf of previous employers).
I hate dealing with recruiters when looking for work – they are generally secretive, pushy and unhelpful. They don’t really help people get jobs and are only interested in their commission.
I will only ever look for direct job adverts now.

Well some games companies insist on only dealing with recruiters. For whatever reason. I’d rather have those jobs advertised here than not. Otherwise they’re not getting the word out as directly to the community as they could be. I guess dealing with a recruiter makes a lot more sense in a country with a vibrant industry and dedicated games recruiters, where you can assume a certain amount of vetting/ filtering and due diligence on candidates by the recruiters. We don’t really have that situation here because we don’t have any experienced games specific recruiters (due to not having much of a games sector here).
But with regards to Riot, the recruiter who started this post has already mentioned the company they are recruiting for. Those jobs are up on the Riot site. The word is out. The jobs have now been essentially advertised and you can apply direct and bypass the recruiter altogether. A job is a job is a job. Recruiters may not be popular but this site is the primary games industry site here and all games jobs should get a mention here regardless. At the end of the day, this site denying people the ability to advertise games jobs is not going to help grow our current microscopic ‘industry’ here now is it? So I say put the animosity aside (however justified) and embrace the necessary evil of the recruiter. Beggars can’t be choosers. -

Thanks for the replies folks and judging by the feedback I think it is fairly obvious that this is the wrong place for my post. If the mods could delete the post that would be great!
Thanks again and good luck to all!

Well then gamedevelopers.ie is engaging in revisionism, of a sort. I guess it depends on what this site is all about. If its about covering every bit of news or info relating to the Irish games sector then I say leave it up. If it’s about gatekeeping and cherry picking relevant info, as decided by a handful of people representing everyone, then I say take it down.

maybe do something constructive and agree what is and isn’t allowed, ie active members of the community working in the irish game development scene, and then third parties such as recruitment agencies, and a process/approval for them to go through, and possibly a nominal donation towards costs?
the jobs listings are one thing, but forum posts, especially in the case where they haven’t introduced themselves first, are another.

It is my strong personal opinion that recruitment companies should not be allowed to post on these forums.
However I do not think we should delete this post. I think it has been a valuable discussion and it should remain for that reason.
I do think that we should, as a group, decide on whether recruitment companies can post here or not.

I think maybe we should revise our sign up guidelines to be clearer about our position on recruitment agencies and their use of the forums. These forums are not for posting jobs from recruitment agencies.
If someone wants to have something posted on the job listing then one needs to contact us via the ‘info@gamedevelopers.ie email and if it is a third party recruitment agency they will need to donate smthg to the site/or provide some other input.
Companies based in Ireland and other projects of regular members are welcome to send us jobs and we will post for free.
I for one am not interested in gatekeeping, except for explicitly sexist, racist and spam content.
I am also not for revising, unless it has been pointed out to us that we have broken the law somehow.
But I am only one of the moderators.
