Since its nearly September…
Damian (omen) and I will be over in Dublin mid September. I am not sure of Damo’s exact flight dates…but I think its the Thurs 15th.
So I propose Frday September 16th for the shindig as I fly back on the 17th.
Just I suggestion, as we’ve never attended a shindig together (aaaw)

I’m pretty sure that using a nuke on Cork during the Jazz festival could be justified under international law. After all, a humanitarian disaster is far more desirable than listening to Jazz, or Corkmen.

My fave pub was the Dice Bar, but its too far from town.
How about The Long Stone?

*starts dreaming of the day he’ll be able to afford a car in Ireland…*
-
09/09/2005 at 9:52 pm #24832AnonymousInactive
dice bar isn’t too far, its not even as far out as the digital hub. It is however druaghty and cold. How about sin e? On the quays roughly level with christchurch, good crowd as well
-
09/09/2005 at 10:05 pm #24833AnonymousInactive
A long enough distance from the city centre, no?
-
09/09/2005 at 10:08 pm #24835AnonymousInactive
Considering people are suggesting cork, no. And if memory serves, its actually less of a distance to sin e in that direction than it was to Mahaffy’s in the other direction. The long stone is more central, but it is also likely to be packed out from 5 onwards on a friday, whereas sin e usually fills up towards the evening, so we should be able to acquire seats.
-
09/09/2005 at 10:10 pm #24837AnonymousInactive
Anywhere central and I don’t mind, as long as the place has none of that ‘popular music’ that the hippies and beatniks like.
-
09/09/2005 at 10:14 pm #24839AnonymousInactive
ok so no Jazz, and no beatniks. What exactly constitutes hippy music these days anyway?
And if you’re suggesting we go to the first place we can find that has a pop/rock jukebox we may be forced to ‘educate’ you in some way
-
11/09/2005 at 4:59 pm #24863AnonymousInactive
I’m probably showing my age, but what, dare-i-ask, is a beatnik?
-
13/09/2005 at 9:33 am #24892AnonymousInactive
So, any more thoughts on venue ?
-
13/09/2005 at 10:46 am #24898Aphra KKeymaster
how about O’Neills on Pearse Street and then we can move onto more dancing venue later…?
Aphra.
-
13/09/2005 at 10:55 am #24903AnonymousInactive
A beatnik is a form of hippie (or at least that’s what my grandparents would say). It’s a term from the Flower power period, if I am not mistaken.
I suppose nowadays you’d call it a freak? “Bohemian” also comes to mind… err. Hip cats?I find it funny to associate the word with “popular” music. I thought the popular music in Ireland was dictated by chavs :?
(or maybe it’s just the countryside, I am told there are actual Goth places in Dublin) -
13/09/2005 at 10:59 am #24904AnonymousInactive

14/09/2005 at 9:21 am #24942AnonymousInactive
Cool I’ll try drop in around then too. Think I might be able to recognise you anyway Dave, so I’ll have someone to look for.
I’ll try mett Kyotokid first so I’ll be more recognisable. That is if the mobile-phoneless one calls me when I get in. -
14/09/2005 at 11:55 am #24958Aphra KKeymaster

Cool, will try to make it this one myself, Haven’t been to one in a while. I’ll be up to Atha Cliath that night at around 10.00, you guys reckon that you’ll still be around?
-
14/09/2005 at 1:39 pm #24961AnonymousInactive
I’m in Dublin too on Friday, I also haven’t been to one in ages. Leaving here at 8pm so I’ll try and make it in for just past midnight or so. I know there’ll still be a few hardened stragglers about, and Dave will only be polishing his dance shoes at that stage
-
14/09/2005 at 3:31 pm #24962AnonymousInactive
So which one is it? 16th or 17th?

Aphra.
-
17/09/2005 at 5:44 pm #25092AnonymousInactive
I went to O’Neills on Suffolk St (aka THEE O’NEILLS). I called and texted Damian but the muppet never replied.
*sigh*
Got bored of waiting so I headed off to me Drum N’Bass club :D
