Students in the states get a chance to see what the industry is like first hand.
This is an old article but I thought that something similar here would be interesting.

At Abertay last year we [fourth years and masters] had a game workshop with Peter Molyneux. Basically it was a Q&A but he had demos of Black and White 2, Fable and The Movies.
I was never a big fan but it was a great experience.

It was great, he talked quite candidly about everything and anything.
My question was about why Fable was XBox exclusive and how he felt developing his first console-only title. He admitted it was the money Microsoft threw at him.
His fable of fable was mind blowing, I think he could be quite complicated to control, but there is a wealth of control and the world does seem to go on without you. I should state it was ONLY a video.
He had an old video of Unity and not much to say.
He should some of the Movies. It makes quite good little films but to be fair I think it’ll be a short lived novelty, in terms of creating the films at least.
He also talked a little about Project Dimitri (his nephew Dimitri was with him) it seems focused on modelling, a development of the modelling scheme used to develop and age characters in Fable and Black and White 2. At the time I think it hadn’t been unveiled but it has now.
The main focus was black and white 2 which was stunning. It was all tech demos, real time by the way no videos and it looked wonderful. I’m not a fan of the original but technically it looked great, particularily the destruction (it uses fragmented meshes).
A really great experience.

I got a chance to play Fable for about half an hour a fortnight ago, looks pretty good and handles very well, the combat is bloody hard at times (you have to run away I was told but I battled through nonetheless), but as for the more elusive features, they take time to come out.

Jeff Minters Unity is it?, are Lionhead publishing it?

Minter joined up with Lionhead for the project. Lionhead are doing the interactive music AI if I recall correctly. Don’t think they are doing more than that, but I could be wrong.
And as for that Molyneux talk…I was working in Argyle House at the time….2 minutes away and I couldn’t go…disgusted! Especially seening as I was technically still part of the MSc class at the time.

Yes and yes.
I think its the ‘next month’ image at the back of this month’s edge, so expect another feature to follow up the ten page feature they’ve already done on it.
I have to say one Molyneux ‘involved’ title I’m not even remotely interested in is BC, he didn’t show it at the time but all I have ever saw of it has looked really boring. It looked like Turok but but even more boring.

Has anyone ever played any of Minters games, apart from Tempest?, like invasion of the Llama’s or anything, I’m curious as to how this ‘Unity’ will work, it looks like something along the lines of Rez.
Minters last interview with Edge some months ago revealed that the games colours and vibrancy will increase with the player’s skill, sounds good. Am I correct when I say the game is being released on the GameCube, atleast thats what i heard.

Were you still technically part of the Msc class?
You were one of the Demonlore guys right, who were in the Masters year the year before? When that American Masters guy shouted at me for playing Operation Flashpoint

Yup, I was part of demonlore.
And that american guy is a complete and utter twat!
Nearly cost us that competition. Eventually quit the MSc soon after, cos I knew I wasn’t going to do the dissertation while I was working. As for Lionhead publishing??? Since when do Lionhead publish games?
I played Llamatron way back on the Amiga. Great game :)
