Fingers crossed Ireland will finally be getting R&D tax breaks that may apply to the games industry.
So hopefully all that in-house tech projects that you can’t get funding for, (and thereby create jobs) will be green-lit in the weeks/months to come.

Well it looks like the UK is going to get tax breaks…for game development
it was included in the budget but it will probably be a year before it comes into effect and will need EC approval.
not sure yet how it will work but TIGA and games companies in the UK have been lobbying for this for some time now.

I’d think that Newry might end up being a very popular place as a result.

Hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone knew what the state of the tax-breaks (and more specifically how they pertain to games dev) for R&D outlined in the OP were in? Are they still on the table? Have they been scuttled in light of the economic crises etc?
If anyone had any other more recent sources on the matter (again particularly with respect to games), I’d greatly appreciate a link or two.
Cheers

The new UK coalition Government has axed plans to implement tax breaks for games production, Chancellor George Osborne confirmed today.

Tax breaks have become dirty words in government circles :-(

Even here? Now’s the perfect time for the government to embrace tax cuts for game devs and get some companies over here.

Sounds like crap to me, can’t imagine a publisher that wouldn’t like a few cheaper game studios in the UK to save some costs. Business usually comes before patriotism

develop posted it originally and have several well placed sources according to them.

I wouldn’t get too caught up in the drama – I’d focus more on the broken promise.
Tax breaks were promised/approved then subsequently got a CTRL+Z.
Everything else is irrelevant.
