…as we know it.
More brainwashing, more product pushing, more crap:
"MTV to Invest More Than $500 Million in Video Games
MTV Networks (MTVN), a unit of Viacom, has announced that it will invest more than $500 million over the next two years in the development and distribution of its gaming business across its global portfolio.
"Gaming is a focal point of our vertical entertainment strategy to superserve our loyal and passionate audiences with engaging experiences, and the success of all our properties, everything from AddictingGames to the virtual games on Nicktropolis to the award-winning Rock Band, really has put us in a leadership position," said Judy McGrath, Chairman and CEO, MTV Networks. "As we continue to take our brands narrow and deep to serve our targeted audiences, we are investing over $500 million in the next few years towards building our games business, worldwide, across all of the brands."
Good/Bad?

Did you know that they have a mmo for that MTV show.. whats it called.
The real life orange county they call it. [edit] "The hills", that was it.
They even had a contest where one of the stars played the game one day and people had to take snapshots ingame and the best picture won. Like the freakin paparazzi. People change clothes, hang out in clubs, that type of stuff. -

I’m sure $ 500 Million will be towards innovation, exploring and pushing the limits of creativity, etc.
*cough*sarcasm*cough* -

It’s not particuarly good or bad. It’s just one branch on a tree. MTV will pump a lot of money into the industry and give people jobs. That’s obviously good. They’re also likely to take the EA approach to development. That’s not so good.
I’ll be happy if one good game comes out of this. But don’t worry, it doesn’t mean the end of creative games.

imagine i can see them releasing a super sweet 16 game as a platformer. you play as the girl goin to different levels collecting different things for the party. and God of War style button prompts against the dad when it gets expensive. or a gta style game starring indie kids/emos…(when emos kill they cry and cut them selves afterwards resulting in their own death YESSSS)

What’s a "vertical entertainment strategy" and since when has Rock Band won any awards? Typical PR crap and given the source I won’t be holding my breath on anything innovative coming from these guys for quite some time.

Press (A) for "Aw but daddy.."
(B) for "But you said…"
(X) for "It is my day I can do what I want"
and (Y) for "I don’t want you here.. leave!"That covers a typical episode I think.

You do realise that MTV are publishing Rock Band don’t you?
Games like that will be where most of the revenue would go I should think. Can only be a good thing.
