Dammit, now I have to buy a PS3!

If that’s fake then it’s exquisite.
Team Ico, those guys showed me that I did have emotions. I hadn’t felt that way since Terminator 2.

That’s a… it’s a… I mean, that’s the biggest… I give up: what *is* that?
(Excellent choice of music mind you: I love Miller’s Crossing)

That music sounded so familiar, I just assumed it was from SOTC

I haven’t seen a game I really wanted to play for a long, long time… until that video. Please be real.

Footage a year old "someone" says.
Please don’t get hurt my big flying rat-cat.

Not really seeing the big deal here… have I missed something?
-
20/05/2009 at 8:40 pm #44089AnonymousInactive
Yeah, obviously you missed Ico and SOTC!!
-
20/05/2009 at 8:53 pm #44091AnonymousInactive
Shadow of the Collossus? Yeah, missed it alright, still won’t do the PS3 thing Pete, despite your best efforts.
Still, this trailer isn’t exactly breaking new ground either is it? I mean, yeah, nice fur (when it isn’t popping), nice cloth too, but the game looks like any other tomb raideresque adventure.

Did you not think there was a lot of emotional content in it, though?
The graphics looked almost like it was on a ps2, but the setting, the drama, and the music made it look special. -

Yeah, well it does look like it was produced a couple of years ago alright.
As for the emotional content, no, I’m not really buying it. The music maybe a bit, but just another tomb raider backdrop? The drama? I dunno, didn’t really see any there. I mean the big intro to the creature yeah, but how many of those moments are there in a game?

Who cares about the graphics, their games are more about the experience and emotional attachments you make and feel.

Maybe you would have to have played Ico and SOTC to get excited about this, Sean if you ever get the chance to play these games then jump at it :)

It ain’t popping. It’s supposed to look like its windy.
The graphics looked almost like it was on a ps2[/quote:b78bb722bf]
Did we watch the same trailer? I was thinking that the rendering looked to good in some parts to be in-game PS3…like when the gryffon is sitting on the pillar. Looks more like a target render to me…if thats in game, and from a year ago, I can’t wait to see what they show at E3.
-
26/05/2009 at 5:57 pm #44141AnonymousInactive
No, I think it’s actually popping. Alternatively, if that’s supposed to be wind, it’s a poor job of it then.
Guess we have different opinions on what constitutes decent graphics. But then, I’m an xbox 360 player, so I guess I’m just used to higher quality… (he says, fanning the flames).

SOTC on the PS2 put anything on the old Xbox to SHAME. It had motion blur, HDR, advanced IK systems, fur approximation, huge landscapes with massive draw distances, advanced shaders (rim lighting, translucency and self-shadowing on characters), post processing, volumetric smoke and lighting….but more importantly – the biggest dose of EMOTION injected into it that that certainly I’ve ever experienced in a game, its almost a tear-jerker! Bottom line is that these guys know how to push hardware and do the impossible and I know this is gonna be incredible in many respects when its released *confirmed even?)
You may be have to wait to find something like this on the 360!
BTW: Check out this link on teh tech of SOTC:

Ha, ha, guess I fanned those flames pretty high (enough to draw comparisons between the old Xbox and the PS2, even though that’s not what we were talking about at all), not bad for a quick post.
Anyway, I was basing my comments on that trailer. The fur looks like it pops, the environments are about as boring and overdone as you can get (please, what’s that now, about 9,000 games in that setting now?), and how anyone can seriously tell me they got emotionally invested in the course of that trailer is only fooling themselves and certainly not me.
I’m not saying the developers haven’t done incredible stuff before, but THAT particular trailer was same old, same old.

How dare they do that in a development video that is not only a year and a half old but also not for the publics eyes! (Halo 3 was in grayscale up until well after the alpha so…I think these guys are doing ok).
But then, I’m an xbox 360 player[/quote:de603288ce]
This is such a childish statement :D I consider myself a gamer (full stop) not a PS3, or 360, or Wii gamer. Good games are good games, irrespective of their platform. Older argument on the internet.
(please, what’s that now, about 9,000 games in that setting now?)[/quote:de603288ce]
3. Including this one.
How many games on your console feature space marines in glowing power armour and shaven heads?

Wow. You can’t upset the PS 3 fanboys here, can you? Jesus… it’s only a game lads.
Squash-n-Stretch: not gonna get into a flame war here, but I can’t exactly call myself a PS3 player, now can I? (as I patently don’t have one!)
As for it popping, are you for real? It appears to pop to me, therefore: it pops. There’s no argument here, no room for debate, it just "pops" in the video. You can tell me black is white, but honestly, who are you to tell me anything?
How dare anyone criticise the PS3, eh? Or even have an opinion on it! (At least, here on GD.ie anyway). Tell you what, enjoy the game lads! Have a good cry over it all. While you lot are weeping openly at the emotion of it all, I’ll be avoiding shedding tears of BOREDOM.
Anyway, enough from me, I won’t be returning to this thread, the PS3 fanboys win!

Well, you know, I looked back at a SotC youtube video, and then at this one again; and yeah, to some extent, maybe there was a little nostalgia – the PS2 SotC graphics weren’t quite as good as I remembered. Hey, this says more about the immersive game experience of SotC than about anything else..!
I still don’t think the graphics in the trailer though represent a generational leap over SotC; I’d expect a lot more from a finished product from the same team on new hardware; but I admint calling it ‘almost ps2’ works better as a metaphor than a statement of fact :)
The thrust of my comment, though, was that I was trying to say that the graphics weren’t the important thing about the trailer; and that’s definitely the case, for me at least.
I remember playing Ico for the first time as well – I rented it, so had to finish it in an evening. The graphics were great, at the time – but what blew me away was the aesthetic experience – which isn’t quite the same thing – and that’s what this trailer has in spades, in my mind.

[/quote:65dcf49e29]Each to their own. People like games for lots of different reasons.
Maybe it’s the good experience with previous games with same aesthetic that are causing us to salivate over the trailer – in a semi-pavlovian way – in which case someone else mightn’t see what the fuss was about; that’s fair enough, we can all benefit from the diversity of tastes, and experience.
The cinema would be as boring if it only showed action movies, as if it only showed dramas.

Although I am a GC and DC fanboy, thats fair to say. You just had no real rebutal to the skinhead power armoured space marines. :P And for the record I prefer the 360. Bigger games library.

Here ya go Sean, feel better. http://ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/14230646/ico-project/videos/thelastguardian_trl_trailer_60209.html
Nicely simulated featherage. Although still no space marines in power armour and shaved heads, so I know you won’t be picking it up. ;)
She’s less cute in this update :( She looks older and I think they should go back to the completely black eyes. The design is over-complex now. Boo hoo.
Amazing E3 so far!

Yeah it’s a class trailer. http://www.gametrailers.com have given it the award for the best trailer at e3 and it’s a pretty hard decision to argue with

Agreed – this is not just a re-post of the trailer though – it some guys breakdown of the expected gameplay / story based on the trailer – clever and well worth a watch.
Cheers,
Ian
