Hi all,
I hope Aphra won’t mind, but we have some good news to share with everyone in GameDevelopers.ie
Further to the discussion a number of members contributed to earlier in the year, GameDevelopers.ie has proceeded to kick off a long overdue overhaul of the website and forums. Ten years ago, the internet was a lot different, and our main concern was to make something that worked on WAP, and as devices have moved on, as well as technology, a lot of creaks are showing.
For instance, you may have seen that spam posts are starting to creep in and the site isn’t very practical on touch devices, so Aphra has bought a brand new server and software to run the website and forums.
We’ll keep the legacy forums (ie this one) in place for I’d imagine a good time in parallel, but for the rest of the content on the sites (ie news, features, events, jobs, courses, companies etc) I’ll be transferring this across, and then want to get everything tagged at a later stage by volunteers to make it really practical to use.
However, here’s a huge amount of knowledge accumulated on this forum beyond my specialist knowledge, and I am seeking volunteers for the next six months or so who can contribute a couple of hours a week, delving into the archives (ie we’ll start at post 1 and then go from there) and pull out any relevant information.
There are also large amounts of portfolio work so we can build this out into a new section, and I will also hopefully have a home for my research, as well as anyone else who wants to post stuff they’ve already done in the past, up and available for free to all.
We’ll also need new graphics, icons etc done, social media images for all the usual ones, so if someone is good at that, please shout!!
So if you have time to spare, please send me a pm at jamiemc and let me know what you do, what you can do to help out, and how much time you can dedicate.
Thanks in advance for any help. Please also use this thread for any feature requests, I got a lot during the survey which we’ll implement as much as we can, and also make a really valuable service for all of you to list your companies, products, press releases, assets and jobs.
At this stage there’s carte blanche, so if it’s technically possible and people can help, then we can make it happen.
Cheers
Jamie
