Currently doing this course:
stjohnscollege.ie/courses-2/computers-electronics/computer-game-design-development-fetac-level-6/
Would like to know what can I do once I finish. I know there are many possibilities in Tralee and Dublin, but I’d rather not leave Cork.
Maybe something online?
If possible, specialize in Unity production. Scripting, level design, general team creation / management…
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Cork is a bit tough since the announcement re Big Fish. Most of the jobs that we post here on gd.ie are based in Dublin and if that is anything to go by if you want a position in this industry you might need to move.
You should definitely try to attend some gamejams or gamecrafts which are advertised here (there is one in Cork on the 22nd of Nov. – see our calendar), think about getting a level 7 or 8 qualification and think about building out your portfolio to show what you can do.

Can you cast some light on this? What announcement?
And I’ll attend the Cork GameCraft :)
Lastly, how to get Lvl 7-8 or HETAC from Cork? (Online mayhaps?)

Look up degree level courses in Cork and Limerick – see courses on the top menu of this website as a starting point.

Very sorry for the poor souls that lost their jobs, but I need to say that it’s for the best. That company’s policy was to fart out as many games as humanly possible, and buy out the small indie ones. Quantity over quality. Disgusting attitude.
Hopefully some of the former employees got together to make some quality indie games
As for the Hons, I’ll contact the colleges and see what comes out of there.
Thanks!

Slightly off topic but,
Was there game development being done in Cork? or was it localisation and support? Any of the articles I could find on it are thin on details.
Similarly Frogwares has an office in Dublin but are they actually developing there?
If anyone could tell me I would appreciate it.
