This year women in games is being held in a design school in Wales and will focus on ‘Aesthetics in play: new platforms, new perspectives, new players’.
I am involved in helping to organise so if you are interested in knowing more just PM me.
This year will see some high profile industry people from the US, the UK and Europe speaking as well as more academic papers and demos of work in progresss.
The deadline for proposals and papers was extended until the 16th of Feb so there is still time to send in your ideas.
There is also now a womeningames blog at http://womeningames.wordpress.com/

Presumably this refers to the new wave of ‘fun’ casual games that have attracted a wider audience. It would certainly be interesting to hear what has to be said. Personally, I’m not a big fan of these types of games, but I think they’re going to become a very important area in the market. I’m seeing people buy a PS2 that would have shunned it a few years ago.Let us know how your talk goes!

Well back from a very interesting, if long, Women in Games. hope to type up my notes and circulate or post soon. some great speakers from industry and probably more of an art and design focus this year.
Nice to meet Emma from NWIFE there this year too..
For those who weren’t there BBC Women’s Hour covered the event and a sound file can be found at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/02/2007_16_fri.shtml

Wish i heard about it earlier.
I do think its an important area of games development, but i just hope the whole area doesnt get segrigated into a genre of its own. There must be somthing men and women both like to do!
I hope it got a good responce, web media certainly picked up on it.
Got a news feed from Gamespot about it a few days ago. -

slides from many of the presentations at this year’s women in games in Wales are available online, and while some of them loose some of their context, it is a pretty good resource. See http://womeningames.wordpress.com/
Next year’s event will be in the University of Warwick probably in September. A call for papers, presentations and work will be issued soon.
