Well done to Ireland for holding Zimbabwe! I’d love to see Ireland go through, even if it is a million to one shot. I don’t agree with all the foreigners in the team, but if it wasn’t without Bray it would have been a shambles for us.
England are making a right mess of things today. There’s no way we’re going to win this tournament. It’s a complete disgrace. Nothing else to say really. My expectations for England may be a little higher, but there’s just no excuse.
It’s not even worth mentioning Scotland.
I can’t imagine too many people here are thrilled by the sport of cricket. I must admit I’m not a huge fan but have only been reeled in by a friend. What do you guys think of what’s been going on so far?

It was a great finish to an okay game I thought – Zimbabwe lost it big time IMHO – but it could also be said that Trent Johnston did a great job as captain to apply the pressure. Bray saved our bacon big time.
The game against Pakistan will really show the void between Irish cricket and World Class cricket, but that’s the only way for countries to get better, by playing better opposition. However, it doesn’t help if they get their arses kicked resoundingly.
If England can keep their better players fit, I think they have a decent chance. They need Vaughn to play several consecutive games, he’s got a great cricket brain – I think while Flintoff got a lot of credit from the public for the Ashes win in England, Vaughn had his tactics spot on for the entire series. He’s a big loss when he’s out injured – England lose a great batsman and captain.
I don’t actually know the odds but I’d say Australia would be favorites to win, after them I’d say India, Pakistan, the West Indies (although I expect them to collapse when the big games start) and England.
Personally, I think cricket is a great sport but then I’ve played it since I was about 8 or 9. I can understand why people don’t like it but there is a huge tactical side to the game that can’t be grasped from just watching it on TV – in fact I think most stations are very poor with their coverage. The BBC highlights for the games so far have been very poor IMHO.

Oh it was beautiful! I can see Ireland getting through to the super eight. I started off jokingly hoping that Ireland would do well, but now I’m just stunned. Roll on Friday…Sad to see Scotland go out, not that they ever really had much of a hope. Wait… didn’t we say that about Ireland? Maybe next time, lads!

I can’t say I understand too much about cricket but great to see the lads reaching the summer eight finals.
Now, as for the Rep. of Ireland soccer team – ‘yawn’ :)
Aphra.

Reminds me of a great irish soccer team joke.
Did you hear Steve Staunton got caught breaking into a cigarette machine, "he was trying to get 10 players".

After recent rugby games in Croke Park, the GAA were worried about conditions of the pitch. Steve Staunton stepped in however, when they decided to buy fertiliser to help the grass to regrow, "Don’t bother", said Steve, "I’ll be putting a pile of shite on it next weekend!"

The Pakistani manager died![/quote:39dd9dc9ee]
Or, it appears, had death inflicted on him. That is to say, he didn’t self-die.
I mean, he was externally deaded. It was an involuntary third-party suicide.

Latest speculation is that they Pakistan may have thrown the match, and the manager was about to squeal.
